Sometimes, just some of the time, people selling birds are selling what THEY were told the chicks were.
So you get a second or third hand LIE. Not intentional but if the chick owner/breeder sold it saying buff orp, and they next person thinks it's a buff orp, then it's sold again as a buff orp... or bred as one. Then all heck breaks loose.
I think the barred buff Rock Roo is just totally gorgeous and I'd set him aside and GO FOR the pattern/color with some bought from breeder buff rocks. But that's just me.
If you're getting buff orps - hatchery is kind of simpler than hatching BUT you will get better birds if you hatch from some of the orp breeders here - REALLY. Much better off. Bigger birds, better color, usually a kinder nature. I don't do orps but I'd get them from BYC folks first.
