Did I get duped? Not a Buff Orpington!

Here is a pic of some of my hens and my rooster. Your rooster for sure is not. Your hens might be. As Tuffled Hen said Orps have whitish legs. Looks like you have some red sex link hens. And maybe a few orp hens.

I give up! Why do people lie? I guess that I will start over, again. I am so put off now, that I don't even want to raise the Orps anymore! I love the color of them and they are good layers. I am going to be hatching some silkie eggs that I won on eggbid.

I am going to order some meat chickens, maybe from McMurray. I will get some orps from them. I really like these chickens too. I always had mutt chickens growing up and was very excited to have some pure bred birds. Now, I just have mutt chickens. So, I have 2 red sex-link pullets, a rooster red sex-link and 6 buff something pullets. GREAT!!!!!!!

Don't get discouraged! Look around on here and you'll probably find a breeder close to you that you can get some nice BOs from

There's always hatcheries and hatching eggs too

You'll get there... and besides... mutt chickens are great too! I love my pure birds and my mutt birds equally

Especially when they lay me lovely eggs

Here is my favorite pullet.
She has white feet, compared to the roo. The others look just like her, but she is the one that pecks at my feet. Can the pullets at least be orps?

The store may have ordered Buff Orps and Sex-links and then couldn't tell them apart. Sometimes it happens. I bought some EEs to raise for resale, and then as they started growing, I realized that they were Brown Leghorns! The store apologized and admitted they had gotten them mixed up. They gave me a store credit, which I used to get more chicks!

That bird has barring. My guess is a BR crossed with Buff Rock-both have yellow legs and he could very well be that cross.

Southernchick, in that pic of the roo with the pullet [your favorite pullet] she looks like a buff orpington to me. She's very pretty. It looks to me like you have a mix of hens - some sex links and some buff orps.

Mutt chickens are cool too though.

That roo is very handsome IMO. And some of my best chickens have been mutts.

Also though, check Craigslist in your area - Buff O roos come up for sale constantly around here - people hatch them out and then have too many roos and are just looking for someone to take them. Keep an eye out, it should not be difficult at all to find a good pure Buff O roo for your girls!
