Did Tractor Supply give me the wrong chick?

I have decided to keep him! And sold the other three for $10 each. My welbar is such a gentleman, all the hens are at peace around him, he hasn't showed a single sign of aggresion and he is so beautiful - he is a blessing in disguise. He doesn't like to be touched but he is so respectful and majestic that I have a new appreciation for the "good rooster." The other 3 were nightmares and were stressing out everyone - hens and people alike. I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. 🥰

Now, I look forward to the eggs! My welbar pullet is the last one remaining to start laying. I expect to see her first egg soon. I have some blue and green laying hens so I want to hatch some of their eggs this spring/summer out of curiosity. The only issue I see is maybe he is TOO nice lol so far he isn't very busy fertilizing everyone - just the same two hens like once a day. He's great at everything else but maybe that will change! He really is gorgeous! I want a rooster so bad. Can’t have one where we live now but as soon as we get land, I’m getting one! I’ll keep a Welbar roo on the list :)

Sorry, I just realized that I responded mostly about my cockerel not my pullet 😂
I will update with a picture of her eggs when she starts laying. She is really taking her time. She and the cockerel are such beauties. Neither of them like to be touched but they definitely like to hang out close and are both very curious. I like them so far. 👍
Haha I have 4 girls that are taking their time too. I guess it’s not so bad. They’re 24 weeks and starting to redden in the face and comb. I had a girl lay at 16 weeks and everyone else at 21/22 so I FEEL like they’re taking their time. I’m sure it’s the shorter days lol. Can’t wait to see your girl’s eggs! Do you have a picture of her?

More land, more chickens! I, too, await larger and greener pastures. 😌

Here is Velma:

I love her! So pretty! How’s her temperament?
She's very curious - always the first one to check out anything new. She also likes to hang around us people and is pretty calm and content. The only thing is she doesn't like to be touched or picked up. That's how the roo is too. Very respectful of others yet wants the same in return. She also leaves the yard to explore which I wish she wouldn't do. She comes back easily when I shake some scratch grains though, so it's not a big deal. So, although I won't get to snuggle her, I enjoy her unique personality all the same. 🧡

She sounds like one of my Olive Eggers. I wonder if they’ll become more friendly when they start laying 🤞🏻
