If it makes you feel any better, I would bet that lettuce would be really hard to grow in Texas. I know what you mean about the store bought stuff. DYK I feel very fortunate to have a lot of farmers markets around here.
I'm allergic to peppers :( and I HATE watermelon.... a couple of things that grow really well down here.

I miss all the food I could eat from up north - black berries fresh off the bushes, for example. Rasberries, blueberries. (I only like blueberries fresh and NOT in food.)

Did you know that blueberries won't grow here unless they are potted because of our sandy alkaline soil? But huckleberries are just up the mountains, and they are close cousins of blueberries!

did you know i hate blue berries, they are disgusting

i am pretty sure i o.d.'d on them when i was younger at my grandmothers, she had a huge blueberry patch, and thats why i hate them
but i do still try them every year, just to find out they are still the same nasty things

Did you know I have started a "rent-a-Guinea" program. 2 year lease. If you are not satisfied return it in original condition in the original wrapping and I will not bill you for the third and fourth year?

Also DYK it is hard to find blueberries around here because the forestry "mulches" all the litter after logging the forests and they no longer burn the area....The mulch screws up the PH and it kills the plants. When they burnt the area we had lots of berries.
