How's the cold, or flu, or whatever coming along? Running it's course & on the way out, I hope.
Come see for yourself! I believe in sharing. :D

I'm not 100% over mine quite yet, but I have all I can use. I had your symptoms about 3 weeks ago. Barely got over that before this chest cold got me. DW drags all this crap home from the bus.

You were just hollering 'cause you were up to 50 birds, now you want staggered hatches so's you can get even more to feed! More coops, more runs, more maintenance. Sure, why not! Makes perfect sense. You can't sell eggs or birds as it is!
I'll be doing another large sell-off in spring of my mutts and crazy birds; most of them are still young hens so they do sell, eventually. I have a few people lined up. Then I will be down to PCs, AMs, and a few pets, plus the Leghorns and ducks. I'll be hatching PC and AM only and they will be eaten if they are not needed. I'm tired of trying to sell cockerels to a non-existent market. Eggs do have a constant market; I can get almost three dollars a dozen if I take batches when I go to the city. Duck eggs go for four. I could pay my entire feed bill if I sold 3 dozen duck eggs per week.

I won't need much more housing except 3--4 breeding pens. They'll all be combined in winter because I like less work. I know you'd never guess it, eh!

When I first started raising chooks I was selling 10 dozen a week to a local resort place. I don't have enough layers to do that any longer. If I wasn't doing this for fun and I wanted to make a profit, I would have built a junky coop, gotten 50 white leghorns, and dubbed them all as pullets. Then stewed them after two to three years and bought more. They could definitely pay for themselves that way.

Please don't make me laugh it hurts. I have had a dry and scratchy throat for about 2 days. Then last night right before supper Bam Bam I thought I was going to fall over I was getting nauseous walking around. My lovable grandson brought this home from his daycare School. I need to wear Wicked's bodysuit next time I babysit. School's are bacterial breeding grounds.

Well I guess I just got shot out of the saddle. Didn't know you had all that going on. Carry on! :duc

:gig Pew pew!

I've given up trying to stop hatching; that just isn't gonna happen. So, I'm going to get the breeds I want, and breed myself a productive and good looking flock. And fill my freezer in the process. :drool The Australorp I souped last fall made the best chili I've tasted yet. I am thinking of closing my flock entirely after next spring. No birds except for the ones I hatch myself, barring disaster or having breeding stock keel over.
(yes, mister smarty pants, souped is a figure of speech and does not mean I think chili and soup are the same)
