Did you know that is called tha water anomaly? And that is the thing that explode your water pipes in winter? And that is the reason that lake don't loos all their aquatic life in freezing?

Mr. Educator!!!  I would love if you could explain the aquatic life in freezing water!!! 

The water anomaly causes the water in it solid form, AKA ice, to float over the liquid form of it.
If water was behaving like all other materials in freezing temp the ice would submerged ( because solid are more dens than liquid of the same matter (exept water )) exposing another layer of water to freezing temp, forming anoter ice which in its time would submerged again, creathing a vicious circle that would cause the freezing of all the water coulum! In this situation no living thing whould survive!
