Did you see the Octagon on sale for $99?

Yes and the Brinsea is stupid proof. Even I had successful hatches.

Stupid proof is GOOD! I am feeling good about this...

I had to worlds worst hygrometer before this latest one and I had good hatches.

They do have a fan, and I easily put 8 turkey eggs and had room for at least twice that.
When the turkeys hatched, though, they wanted out ASAP!!! They couldn't really stand up in there. (and I had forgotten to take it off the turn cradle)

6 baby turkeys, faces pressed against the window screaming "lemmee outta here!!!!"

All my chicks do that and it is TOO funny!!!!

so if I get the Brinsea Mini Advance fully digital 7 egg incubator do I have to watch/change the temp. and/or humidity at all or will this bator take all the guessing work out of it? do I need to get a thermometer and hygrometer (?)

Yes you need a thermometer and hygrometer. Or a combo one. And yes you have to watch the temp and humidity because each region in the country is different. I have to water twice a day and my humidity is still only at about 39%. I need to stick a sock in there in the morning. But I live in the desert, so I expect this. You the thermometer to determine whether or not you need to go up or down from the the factory setting.

I was an absolute newbie not too long ago, my first incubator was (and still is) a Brinsea MiniAdvance and my first hatch was 6 out of 7 eggs. I now have 8 incubators.... all are Brinsea products: 2 Mini Advance, 2 MiniAdvance EX, 3 Octagon20 Advance EX, and a little Rcom Mini (made by Brinsea, sold under R-Com name).

The MiniAdvance units are nearly fool proof (hence my first two great hatches!) and the Advance EX models are STUPID proof.

I have a question .....
I incubate in a Sportsman, but I like to hatch in a tabletop. This unit looks kinda small to hatch in. Is that a problem at all? I guess I just need to be convinced. And, if used as a hatcher, would it be necessary to also get the humidity pump thing?

Currently I have a couple Hovabators to hatch in, and (of course) they hold alot more than this. I am thinking I would have to get 2 of these units to equal one Hovabator. That would be ok, but with added cost for the humidity pump, it would really add up. I wouldn't need a turner, as it would only be for hatching.

Hhmmmm, should I or should I not????

I put over THIRTY eggs in the brinsea advance EX and almost all hatched.I did snatch out the chicks after about 10-12 had hatched because it gets really crowded in there but had no ill effects. So it's crowded, but it works. I don't think I'd let it go to 20 chicks squashed in there, but I'm a worrywart so it's probably fine.

Now I have visions of an incubator with chicks hatching in it like those old Jiffy Pop stovetop poppers.

So if we get the Octagon 20 do we need anything else with it? I got the turner but now I see I might need a thermometer or hygrometer?
