Difference between painted and splash Silkies?

Hi all!
While I don’t have an eye for it, I really can’t see the difference between painted and splash Silkies. Is there a difference? Should the terms be used interchangeably, or are there right and wrong terms? I’ve only ever seen splash Silkies in the 44th edition of the APA Standard of Perfection.

Theyre totally different patterns.
Splash is two copies of blue on a black bird. Blue is a dilute gene. One copy dilutes black to blue. Two copies dilutes it twice as much so you get the splash look. The gene can vary the degree it dilutes so some splash are a really pale light blue while others are pretty much white. That also effects the amount of and sizes of the specks or patches. A splash may have some dark blue spots but no black.
A paint is one copy of dominate white. One copy is dominate so it shows but doesn't completely cover the color underneath. That why they are white with patches. Most paints have black patches but they can be other colors like blue or chocolate.
Sometimes they do look simular but theyre a whole different set of genes for each.
