Hey, that lack of tail gets them around predators far better than tailed birds.
As for colors, read my signature line.
Olive Eggers are birds who have a dark egg laying parent and a green/blue egg laying parent, making the bird lay gorgeous, rich olive green eggs. The darker egg from the parent and richer blue or green egg from the other parent, the better the olive egg.
Photo of my EE hen that lays sky blue eggs. She has the prettiest gold feathers in her hackle. Blue feathers in her tail.
This is an EE pullet on a windy day in WV. She isn't laying yet, but has a nice muff and green legs. She will probably lay olive green eggs, or so I've been told.
What a great source of information on the differences between Easter Eggers, Ameracaunas, and Aracunas. Sure answered some of my questions. So many people give out wrong info on these breeds. I have 7 EE right now, and they are all so different, size, body type, color, legs, feathers, eggs, etc. Here is a picture of one we rescued. He and his brother were heading for someones dinner table, but I thought they were rather unique, so here they are. Could someone please cue me in on what kind of cross went into this chicken? He has feathers on his legs and pink feet. Love the feathers though. Barred something??? I was told he came from a green egg.
I don't think he is an Easter Egger at all, tell you the truth. . . He looks like a Cuckoo Marans x . . . Something else. He's got the body, pink legs, and color of a Cuckoo Marans, but his gold leakage, comb, beard/muffs, crest, and feathered shanks could be from something else.
That is great! So a Cuckoo Marans probably crossed with an EE, Ameracuna or Aracuna maybe? Never thought of that cross. Green egg threw me off and the muff and beard. Might help me get some dark brown eggs, possibly, if I cross with a Marans hen? Sweet! Thanks so much.
i love my EE girls so much and because of them i am looking into getting some pure bred ameraucana's prob. some Blue and Black and some Lavenders for fun!
here is some pictures of my 3 EE girls and their eggs mixed in with my Barred Rocks eggs - one of my BRs has been laying a speckled egg consistently which is a nice addition to the plain light brown! i am really happy with the different eggs so far and cant wait to get some bright blue ones in there too!
this is speckles
