There's no Araucana in him at all, very unlikely he has Ameraucana, and even less likely Easter Egger.

Even if he does have Ameraucana in him, by now the blue egg should be diluted down to a brown or near-brown shade of green. Crossing to a Marans would make for some brown egg layers or possible olive egg layers. Possible.

also does anyone know if mauna kea (the 3rd picture) could be a "real" ameraucana? she is white usually, just dirty in the picture

i will have to check the other stuff like eye color, etc. but any tips would be cool! either way i dont care, i was just curious?

edit to add: the pictures are on the previous page, last post...

thanks

Kea is not an Ameraucana, she's an EE (a beautiful one). See the discoloration of on the hackles? Also, she has a strange type. Almost gamey looking in the body length and long, lanky neck (where a true Ameraucana should have full hackles). And she has a typical EE "beard"/muffs.

The rule I put out with these sorts of things is that if you have to ask, it's an EasterEgger

Thanks for all the help identifying my roo. He does look a lot like your Cuckoo Marans/EE cross. Hope he will give me some dark brown or at least dark olive green egg layers. I have one hen that lays a light olive egg every day. Be a good match for her or a Marans hen I think.

thanks so much, i figured as much, but wanted to be sure, the 3 were advertised as ameraucana's but i knew right away when i saw them that they were not! i love them anyway and they all lay a nice colored egg. mauna kea lays a small light olive egg so i am very happy with them.

I too got a chick (Fluffy) from the local feed store labeled as an Araucana, but she is an Easter Egger. She has very pretty markings and is the sweetest and friendliest in our little flock. She was very attached to our Buff Orpington rooster, which we had to get rid of because he would attack my kids (which made them scared to death of all of the chickens, even the hens!

I thought Fluffy was lonely so I got a couple of new EE's from a lady on Craigslist. She was breeding all sorts of chickens at her house and we got to walk around her property and see all of the different breeds she has. Now after seeing this post I am not sure if the black one we got is an Ameraucana, or an EE??

She is black and her feathers are beautifully iridescent with blues and greens, and she lays big blueish-olive colored eggs. I am brand new here so it won't let me post pics.

She looks a lot like an Ameraucana to me, but I am a newbie so I don't know!!

I must just be a complete dolt, but I just don't understand the differences. I looked through all the pages, read all the references, and just got more and more confused.

To me, they are all just Beautiful Birds! After looking at this thread, you all have me not only thinking less of the adorable batch of little peeps in my garage that just arrived from McMurray... But also more than a little fearful of what I might have gotten in my brown-egg-layer assortment.

If, as this thread seems to show, my sweet little girls are EE's, does that mean I am NOT going to get the brown eggs? I NEED those brown eggs! My egg customers pay for brown eggs...they don't like green or blue! With 100 little girls in my garage, that could potentially be an awful lot of green and blue eggs for me to have to eat myself. Please, someone tell me that I am going to have nice BROWN eggs!!!!
