I have 11 welsummer chicks and one appears to be a bit different then the others. It is a bit lighter, has a white spot on it's back close to the tail and the "V" on the head is not a "V".
It is a week old.
Any idea if the little guy is a cross or just a genetic thing?

Hard to say what the little one is, but it doesnt look like the others! Any chance you can get additional photos? A head shot from the front to see the comb and a standing side shot to see the legs and stance would be best.

They are still young yet but I am gonna say that's a Roo. His stance is a bit different then the others and the lack of the hard line in the V on the head.

hmmm, I'm skeptical. Did you hatch these little cuties yourself or get them from a hatchery?

What is making me skeptical is that s/he has a very dark, crisp outline of the head markings, but its not in a 'v' pattern. The boy Wellies I have seen (albeit not that many) have been a more faded or lighter colored 'v' but it still looked like a 'v'. I am wondering if you should post a picture of this one's head markings on the Welsummer thread in Breeds,Genetics and Showing, and see if breeders that see lots of little roos can give you a better answer.

They look old enough now to start telling the difference sexes. That middle chick looks almost rooish in the comb. Are it's chest feathers darker then the others? The bottom pic is definitely a pullet.
