Dilemma regarding shipped eggs I received.

I've received correspondence from the seller and they are trying to blame it on the PO. Even going so far to say that they've been on the phone with the postal inspector for an hour (after the PO has closed, mind you). Complete and utter B.S. at this point. Ugh.

Just an update, the seller refunded me the price of the eggs, minus the shipping.

I think we have an obligation to SHARE with other BYCers when we receive shipments that are subpar. I am so reluctant to say anything negative, BUT, so many folks are just out to make a quick buck on shipped poultry and it is wrong. I KNOW when a shipment will hatch well, and IT IS the packaging and condition of the eggs inside. Yes, I know eggs get a bit of dirt on them, but eat those, NOT hatch them. You should only sell HALF of the eggs you can gather in a safe time frame, say 3 days time. That way you can choose the clean eggs, as an egg laid on the coop floor or in a dirty nest never hatches out for me, never. Not even under a hen. The PO is just a cop out for lots of folks, sorry, but it is true. I am so sorry you got "took" on that deal. I'd report the seller to whoever needs to know. Yes, they CAN just get a new ID, but at least you have done your part. Thanks, I guess I needed to vent.

I love the "WE package our eggs with great care" and they are wrapped in NAPKINS! Yep, you may have taken great care with your napkins, and crumpled newspaper, BUT you SHOULD take time to research how best to ship eggs. I still feel nervous shipping eggs, and over pack them. I am even doing a project on shipped eggs and the best way to ensure the best hatch possible.

OK, I'm done. If you need some eggs that WILL hatch, you just let me know!

I am not sure I am seeing a problem here. You said the eggs were in a bed or shredded paper which is typical. You said there was a layer of bubble wrap and you said each egg was also bubble wrapped. Sounds like decent packing to me. You complaint about them being pointy side up shouldnt really matter during transit. That box was picked up and put down every which way you can imagine by postal workers. All you would need to do is turn them around and let them set for at least 8 hours. Clearly to me these do seem like PO fault and not the sellers. I would feel a little guilty for taking my money back unless there was a fertility issues at hand.

Ok, so as someone who hasn't yet ordered eggs, how should they be packaged? I am recieving my incubator in the next couple of days. Plan is to try a couple hatches from my own eggs, but after that I do want to order some of the rarer eggs to hatch. What should I be looking for? Thanks for a great thread btw.

They do make strong shoe boxes. Granted this could have been a better box, but again they seemed to be packed well. I have some pretty sturdy shoe boxes myself. And unless the shoe box was damaged in any way, I still dont see the problem. And I am a finiky person when it comes to shipped eggs.

Ok, I guess but the OP -said- it was a flimsy shoe box.

I do agree that the direction of the eggs doesn't matter after that kind of trip- I'd include a note saying, please let eggs rest 8-12 hours pointy side down for best results...

a shoebox is crazy they must have wanted the most buck so they went with a shoebox as for upside eggs they can be put right if you let them set as you should anyway,airbubbles sumtimes reset them selfs when i get em like that i keep them in incubator sitting big side up for at least 2 days before turning them,
