Dill's Giant Atlantic pumpkin diary

Hey R2elk,
So you are hoping to get to grow till September 2 correct? So how many days will that give your pumpkins on the vine? Will that be long enough? Hope you are having a Wonderful Day!!!

I have no idea how many more days until I give in to a killer frost. I am guessing that I may have another 2 to 6 weeks of growing season. With the cool summer and now really cool temps again, this one is not going to make significant growth between now and when the vine dies.

I have had Big Moose pumpkins bigger than this at this time of year in the past. I talked to another gardener who has grown this variety in the past in town. Her largest ever has only been 65 lbs.

I suspect that it matters where you get your seed.

My largest Big Moose was the year before last at 123.75 lbs.

I will be surprised if this one makes it to 80 lbs.

Well I really hope this one gives you a Big Surprise !!!!! We usually have to deal more with the extreme heat and humidity here in Missouri. This summer has been unusually wet which is really a good thing. Usually we are in drought condition here and really laying the water to the garden, plus I use sun shades for the garden trying to prevent the plants from sun burning and basically cooking the plants. So I am routing you on to a great grow my friend!!!

:fl:fl Hoping your pumpkins are ok! Cover them with a sheet?
It gets too windy here to cover them. If it is a light frost and then going to warm back up, I turn the sprinklers on until the temp has risen. Works pretty good for me. If it's going to freeze every day, I let it go.
