I think one of the funniest things that chickens do is the dirt bath. The blitzed out look on their faces while fluffing up to three times their size while simultaneously flinging dirt everywhere is just a riot. Today I let my three pullets free range (with me in attendance) and they all jammed in next to the garbage can to take a nap. Then when they woke up, UPC decided that this is the PERFECT spot for a dirt bath! So she starts doing that little scoot and kick with a peck peck peck thing, and then Pogue and Teryx join in, although UPC did all the work. Apparently this was some REALLY good dirt because they started "purring" (for lack of a better word). Pogue kept taking all the freshly scratches spots that UPC made! I caught a bit of it on my phone: [VIDEO]

I have 3 BR + 3 BO, now 13 weeks old. They think their coop is a Bed 'N Bath house. Guess it's the sand bedding they like so much, every afternoon it's like a Roman Spa for the Teens, one big group dust bath storm inside. Have a camera in the coop and the dust hits the ceiling, like mini-sand storms. Wish I could get a video, but the camera lens needs dusting. The first time I witnessed it, I heard the strange swishing sound, and was surprised to see the gala!

Its so funny to watch chickens do that!

Did you know that chickens do dirt baths not only for fun, but to get rid of their mites?
