Dirty Eggs for Sale!?

I always was my eating eggs. I scrub them with a sponge and some dawn soap, to get all the bloom, and stink off, if there is any. And my eggs are totally fine.

When I sell hatching eggs, I do NOT wash them. It is up to the buyer wether they want their eggs washed or not.

If I store my eggs unwashed, with a bit of dirt or poo on them, will they become contaminated? That is my question. From my reading of posts, it seems not.

If I wash them, then store them, will I risk worse contamination?

Does washing slightly dirty eggs before storing in cartons in the fridge increase the risk of contamination?

I'm seeing all diffrent kinds of things here.

I currently do not wash my eggs before eating them!!???? Do I have Salmonilla now?

Thanks, Peeps.

I change the hay in my nestboxes at least twice a month and don't have issues with dirty eggs. When I do get an egg with a blood streak or maybe a little dirt or poo, I will dampen a paper towel and wash said offending spot. I don't wash my eggs as a whole though because I don't want to disturb the bloom.

Rare time I find a poopy one I'll rinse it with water and use my fingers for wiping. Usually eat those first too, but have put them in the carton (on cabinet) and eaten later and haven't had any problems.

Then I also go check to make sure the bedding hasn't gotten icky or some such since I last checked just to be sure.

Egg laying is sort of predictable, but sometimes a gal could lay one at 6pm, after our checks are done, and then in the morning the other girls come in and make a mess of that one egg while laying theirs... then I come out at 10 or so and find 2 nice clean ones and one with a splat... at least I THINK that's what happened. *shrug*

This is what perpetuates the growth of "germs" and the inability to live with them and not get sick from them.
The sickest families I know, are usually the ones that keep there kids from getting dirty, and sanitize their homes and food.
At least 75% of our immune system is in our gut lining.
I am not saying intentionally eat nasty stuff, but I am saying, life thrives on bacteria, and if we kill it off, nasty bad bugs are given the chance to thrive and cause illness.

Remember this. Anti Bacterial, means anti good and bad. It kills both,

People you can scrub your eggs till you are blue in the face and they can STILL be salmonella contaminated. Because in infected hens, the salmonella lives in the reproductive track of the chicken and is deposited inside the egg as it travels down. That's why commercial eggs, which have been washed in bleach can still be a problem. The key is to keep your pens clean and your hens healthy and happy so they are not infected. Your chickens are most likely not a problem. Commercial eggs in the US come from hens kept in pens that are NEVER cleaned so as not to upset the hens and decrease production. You wouldn't even want to walk into some of these places. That is why the eggs have to be washed in bleach and refrigerated at once. Then they are shipped sometimes as far as from one side of the country to the other. Your back yard chickens are kept clean and happy. You eat or give away or sell your eggs fairly quickly. You are at very low risk compared to store bought eggs.
