Disappointing Kitchen Accessories

Had a girl friend once who was talking to a friend and told her that she was dating, "an older man." I believe I was 37 at the time.

That is rich. I wonder if my sons girlfriend says that about him. He is 37 come Feb. My forever bachelor.

Not sure if I will like an electric stove thinking about getting one of the flat top surface stoves. Any comments from users pros/ cons.

Never had one myself, but my folks bought one, and were sorry. This is what they told me:
  1. You can't tell when it's hot by looks. The burned themselves severely several times.
  2. You can forget to turn it off. Same reason.
  3. While they do look nice you have to be careful how you clean them. They're easy to scratch.
  4. If a pot boils over it can run off onto the floor.
  5. If you drop a large pot is is possible to crack the cooking surface. That's expensive.

I prefer gas to electric for a couple of reasons:
  1. You have better control with gas.
  2. It's hot the moment you turn it on. With electric you have to wait.
  3. If the recipe says, "Remove from heat." all you have to do is turn it off. With electric you have to take it off the burner and find a place to set the pot.

Hope this helps.

I love gas. So long as it's not coming out of someone else. That's going to be my biggest woe when I finally move to the country. Very few have gas stoves because you have to have a big tank and have a truck come to refill it regularly or else just have electric everything.

Do you know, I still have the little light table thing my mother used to put illustrations on mimeograph stencils? LOL. Oh I can still remember her turning that handle ca-chunk, ca-chunk, ca-chunk... Out comes tons of PTA and Garden Club newsletters. lol. She later invested in a small offset printer. Trust me, the mimeograph was tons easier to maintain.

The light table thing is still very useful if you need to backlight something for tracing or whatever. And it's only the size of a piece of legal paper so easy to store.

Years ago as a nursing student I had an elderly lady client who needed a pelvic exam. Her usual doctor was deceased she told me and he had been replaced by a new very young doctor and she was embarrassed to be examined and asked me to go with her. I agreed and off we went. The doctor came into the room and he was about 45+ and balding so I assumed the young one must be off that day. All went smoothly and on the way home she turned to me and said,"you can see why I couldn't have such a young handsome man examine me. Do you think he is old enough to be a doctor?" I guess everything is relative.

I suppose so but the procto guy I prefer is the one I prefer because of his manner. He's obviously from another country and talks with a thick accent, but is so kind and sweet, and thoughtful, he is the one! And yet he's probably younger than I am. But not by more than 20 years.

Not an appliance, but those Eggies things are more trouble than they're worth.

I had the same avocado green Kitchen Aid stand mixer I got when I was first married (the first time) in 1971 until 2011. Unfortunately, it was in some of the boxes that got left stacked outside when I moved here. Smaller house, less storage space... Anyway, it rained and by the time I got to that box, which was melting away, the mixer was corroded. Obviously, I didn't use it often, but I loved how well it worked as late as December 2010.

Now I hqve a bew one with more features, and NOT in the famous 70s avocado green.

Somehow unless the avacado green one worked better, I bet you don't regret the loss if it. LOL. I know I can't stand that color and never was a fan. But some of those old things are just plain better.

I now use the peeler/corer and just bought a new food processor at the Balck Friday sales. Well, hubby bought it for me, I was working. This KitchenAid Food Processor has an adjustable thickness blade for slicing. We'll see if it ends up on this list or not.
It made great dumplings for the Chicken 'N Dumplins on Tuesday night.

There is only one slicer we have ever bought that slices like you expect it to...they are antiques though, so kind of hard to find...but it is called a Kitchen Magician by Popeil. Most awesome slicer ever...you can put whole potatoes in it as long as they aren't too big and just turn the handle and swish swish swish perfect potatoes. It also comes with a few different blades and such. We love ours.

I have been let down by so many products...

Glass cooktops are so much better than older cooktops...stuff can't get under your burners and what not...way easier to clean, just scrape everything off with a razor. We have a Samsung stove that is awesome...
