I have bought eggs from BYC members and am often tempted by eggs on Ebay. So far I have resisted. I have some sort of block in my mind that BYCers probably hold each other more accountable than the big scary world of ebay. What have your experiences been?

Ditto! Out of that many BYCers, a very very very small number you would not want to deal with. Either you can look at the feedbacks here on BYCers OR you can talk in the breed's thread and find out who has what.

I have done fine with ebay eggs. I have only had two hatches that I was not really satisfied with, and those were ordered in December. So...!!!! With shipping, hatching eggs go for a rate of about 60 % hatch. Thats pretty good. Especially in winter time.

BYC is better!!!!!! TRUSTTTTTTTTT MEEEEEEE- I know... I have lost hundreds on e-bay---out of my last batch of 18 coro splits- I got 1 chick. It is different up here- we can actually communicate better and decide on whens the best time to ship or whatever.

Buckcreek is right on the money. % hatch is always a crapshoot that the seller has little control over. Quality of birds is where the true problem lies. Hatching shipped eggs is like going to the Casino: "You pay your money, and you take your chances."

I have bought eggs on Ebay and from fellow BYC's, for the most part I have been pretty lucky and gotten eggs well packed and had pretty good luck hatching with them. Both ways are a option to expand breeds, however I do think by in large that BYCer's will stay very accountable for what they sell.

I have bought from both. I've had good and bad with ebay, 1 out of 36 eggs hatched and they were all sent in seperate boxes and times from same seller.
And my only shipped eggs that were smashed by the post office were from a Byc'r and she resent them when I paid for shipping. Some of the eggs with floating air sacs did in fact hatch though.

I have noticed that there are several sellers on Ebay that are also selling on BYC. I think the prices might be a bit higher on EBay, just my observation on the few I've seen.

Good post.

My BYC hatching eggs were great and the actual breed(cross) olive eggers. 18 eggs and 11 hatched.
the e-bay was suppose to be one breed and I got everything else. 24 eggs and 8 hatched...only one was the breed (BLRW). And he is a roo and not very close to standard. I say ask more question than I did and if they don't answer that is a sign. Most on here care more about their rep. plus are more apt to replace if you pay the shipping. Just my opinion
