Discuss your Ducks

Ain't it something, the way we can have different experiences with the same breeds? I keep asking myself why people say Runners are skittish.

So, they are sweet pumpkins, the two Buffs we adopted three months ago are just as sweet, a little shy about being hugged, but very friendly.

I strongly second the suggestion that you start looking for former Easter ducklings that people cannot deal with. Mercy, there are so many that are abandoned, and after being raised as pets . . . .

It was my mistake. What i should have done was ask the breeder about their Buff flock. It has a lot to do with breeding. Also, my buff was heavily imprinted on my cayuga... And my cayuga ended up passing away. Poor little thing was dealt a bad card.
Quote: Huh, my Buff duck is very laid back. She is shy, but very manageable & sweet. With time she has become much more social with me, and I have noticed a calm spread in the flock since she arrived.

My pair of Ancona hens are very sweet, follow me around the yard & eat peas out of my hand. They like to play at the edge of the hose when I clean off the patio, or water the garden & are excellent foragers. They are not consistently loud, but let me know when they want a change of pace.

Doesnt anyone have pics to share lol? I will probably be looking on Craigslist soon and possibly at CWR but Id like to see the different breeds and do lots of research so Ill be prepared.
