Dixie Chicks

Okay, I just looked at when I planted the tomatoes, apparently it hasn't even been two weeks. So actually they're doing a lot better than I thought. But clearly, they weren't getting enough light. Now that I moved them under the brighter light and watered them from below a bit instead of just misting them, they have perked up tremendously in just a few hours. They might not even need bigger pots just yet... When do you guys usually re-pot? When the second pair of true leaves comes, or at a certain time from planting, or what?

really.... I just look at them.... not sure what I look for....

Three of the six tomatoes I thought I killed look like they're bouncing back. I doubt the three others will though, they look like they're beyond repair, but we'll see. I just hung the other growlight there with the first one, so now the tomatoes are getting 48W. I hope I won't burn them, I've got the lights pretty close, but I really don't think these lights are strong enough to burn them anyway. People manage to grow on their windowsills too, and there the light should be a lot more intensive, about 5-6W per big pot I've got there right now. So I think we should be fine with this, most of the light escapes in different directions anyway.

Al, have you kept any records? Or do you have any memory at all? I think I went with second true leaves last year, and that sort of worked. These don't look like they need it yet though, but I would like to get rid of these peat pots soon and switch them to wick watering.

What I do with my plants is a little different. I pre-sprout my seeds then plant them into 3" peat pots. The less root disturbance the better. It also eliminates wasting pots because you know they have sprouted. If they start sticking roots out the sides of the pot before I can plant them out (which often happens) I drop them, pot and all into a larger pot of some sort. Works for all types of veggies, just be sure top of peat pot is under the soil of the second pot, or when you plant them out or it will wick water away (you can cut the pot tops off if needed).

you have to transfer them out of peat pots soon then... the roots grow into the walls of the peat pot and will be ripped out when you pull out the plants.

And I have ZERO memory... not sure where my brain is, but it is not in my head

I don't remove them from the peat pots. I just score the sides and plant them pot and all. (that's what they are designed for) The pot just breaks down and becomes more "plant food".

I usually wet the peat pot quite a lot, and tear it to pieces without ripping loose the roots and then I just leave it in the bigger pot. The tomatoes have pushed some roots through the peat already... Maybe I should re-pot them tomorrow anyway.

This past weekend I FINALLY got our breeder male rabbit off the back porch. He's in a cage, but still there was rabbit poop balls everywhere

. He was SO EXCITED to eat the grass and lay in it.
@perchie.girl , I also have a greenhouse isolation area. Except it has turned into a breeder pen. I have a CCL rooster, 2 CCL hens, and 2 barred rocks in there. They free range all day and go back to the greenhouse at night. I'd like to use the greenhouse as a greenhouse next year, but for now, all is good. I just open the windows & doors before I go to work.

@Beer can , do you know what predators are getting your chickens? We have hawks bad here. I have been VERY LUCKY! Last year we were fighting raccoons. That was a nightmare.

Well, I got to get ready for work. I am still loving my new job. Part time, but I work pretty much every day-except never on Sunday. I just don't have to work long hours, or super early inhumane hours.

My green house room is appx 16 x 24. and Its attached to the house. I have to walk through it to get to my bedroom. It used to be a full on Green house with a full length glass wall 24 feet by 8 and Ceiling. the church that sold me the house had poured a slab in there so they could turn it into a huge dormatory room.

here is my green house room the day the house went into escrow. each of those glass panels are four by eight and there was about two feet worth of wood on each end. The ceiling was getting ready to fall in... and was covered with plastic because water went right through. I couldn't get the paint off the glass so when I had the roof rebuilt I removed it all. So now the opening to the Greenhouse room is covered by a six by twelve chain-link kennel panel, centered between the two vents on the bottom.

Yep thats my bedroom on the end. The window above the door has a fish painted on it... Matches the curtains I still have those up.

I want to build a deck level with the top of that cinderblock wall and do a screened in patio... Then do another deck level with my bedroom out about ten feet and screen that in so i can put a closet out there as well as a "rustic" bathroom... Toilet and a shower. Mostly al fresco...

I am a fan of a background of white on walls then put the color on with paintings.... But when I paint I have been known to use black or dark grey for the Jesso... especially if I am going to do alot of color.

If I wanted a whole wall dark in the house I would do it with fabric.... I have been thinking of stretching canvas on one wall and doing a painting on that So I can rollup the painting and save it. I hate the idea of doing paintings on walls because you will be forced to eventually paint it over...

Just came back from a store run, and also went to the post office to finally pick up the replacement for my grow light that broke. On the way I took a look at how my rhubarb is doing, it seems to be thinking it's spring too. The parsley root I planted last year was alive and well too, it will be interesting to see if they get some size this year. When I got back home, I opened up the package with the grow light, and looks like the company packed in a few extras!
Nice!
