Okay, just got the chilis moved into bigger pots, and I built them wicking reservoirs. I didn't re-pot the tomatoes yet, I just moved them in under the light the chilis had in their peat pots. They're really not looking that good, I hope the added light will perk them up a bit. I think I'll repot them later today or tomorrow.
Here are the 'maters. The ones dying in the front are the ones I tried pinching. The tubular bulb should multiply the amount of light they're getting a lot, they were under a 13W single point bulb, this one has almost twice the wattage at 24W, plus the seedlings should get that light a lot more evenly like this.
The chilis look a lot better, but they were getting a bit crowded in the previous pots foliagewise. Now they should have some more room to grow. I still haven't managed to convince Karin that a shelf in the middle of that window wood look great, no really... you wouldn't even notice it at all. I swear. I think I'll try again tonight... I could use the growing space. That window is the only proper place for growing with natural light I've got.
This is how my water trays look:
So far this has been a great system for keeping them watered. It's much more even than what I did last year, which was to fill the bottom third of individual sealed pots with leca gravel and then soil on top. This way I can utilize the whole pot for soil, and they can soak up an even amount of moisture. Plus, you only need to add water once in a week or two.
