Dixie Chicks

I agree, Amberjem, NAF's Wyandottes are beautiful! Think we can do some sweet talking for some eggs??? lol
Saw some Silver Laced Orpington eggs on eBay, 8 eggs went for over $500, and their 2nd auction went over $300!! They were gorgeous, but that is just too much for me.

Quote: I'd be happy to help but I don't have these anymore. I got them in 2009 from a breeder in Wisconsin that shows his stock. These were culls from his flock. I love the pattern but it is not something I was ready for. Keeping properly patterned birds is very difficult and takes a lot of hatching and raising chicks to make sure you have enough to choose from each year. I don't have the set-up or live in a place for that kind of commitment.

Good Morning! Only -24C this morning.

My dogs burps at us too after he had his dinner. We take it as a "thank you" and just reply "your welcome, glad it tasted good". He loves food, the only thing he'll spit back out is celery...

Loved the greenhouse designs, must go back and look more at them!

I am a big skier, cross country, tried it once, don't get the point.

BC, cross country is fun when you do it in a place with spectacular views, or if you do it like you're competing in the Olympics.

Vaiva does the burp thing too. After she's eaten, she'll come to Karin or me and lick her (own) lips for a while, and after about a minute she'll let out a small burp. We see it as a thank you too.

That's a nice sized coop, Beer. Mine's a lot smaller, but luckily it makes it cheaper to heat. Next year I don't think I want chicks in the winter though, and I'm not going to heat the coop, at least not as much. I think optimal would be getting a proper heater cable for the outside waterer, and then heating the coop a bit when it gets below -10C or -15C, to take the edge off. But I just don't have the heart to keep the chicks in that kind of temps.
Yep, this is my feeling. I won't let a broody sit after Labor Day weekend (first weekend in September) or before the middle of March.....just not fair to them. My "coop" is one end of our barn/shed which is wood sided and has a plywood with shingles roof (like most homes here). The coop part is 28 x 12 and only separated from the rest of the building by partial solid walls and wire. There is a ridge vent through the whole building. It stays about 10 degrees warmer than outside temps and I don't provide any heat. I have heated dog dishes to keep the water thawed.

I do deep litter and it is supposed to raise the temp, but I cleaned the coop out last spring before I got this group of chicks so I don't think it's working this winter.

you mean the version where they shoot targets?

My middle school did a winter trip (that was long ago!). Each day we'd have a different winter activity, skiing, snow shoeing, cross country... Our teachers were the instructors. I am sure if I hadn't been paired with the girl that had the constant migraine it would have been more fun!
