Had a bad thunder/lightning storm last night, lost internet :'( so to bed early and couldn't chime in on the whole autosexing brownleghorns. I can't find anywhere that says this can be done. They are the same color as welsummers as chicks and adults and welsummers can be sexed, but I find nowhere saying it can be done with leghorns. ?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to sex any chipmunk patterned chick

WHY would they die after internal pip? I had multiple do that with my shipped Leghorn eggs... doesn't that mean bad nutrition of the breeders?

Of course with the calls, don't they sometimes have such a short bill that they can't crack open the shell?

But, either way, why wouldn't the chick, if it has internally pipped, not be perfectly healthy and alive 24 hours later... even if it is still stuck in the shell???

I don't know! My calls are eating the same thing they ate last year and the same as everyone else and they just don't want to hatch. I got one and its a noisy little bugger so it'll survive. I moved the one due to hatch the 23 to their sides. Everyone's still alive. Well see how it goes. As soon as I start seeing internal pips. I'm making safe holes for the all so they don't suffocate. I feel like my internal pipped duckling suffocated. The one that externally pipped, idk why!

I didn't know that they could suffocate after internally pipping.

Sheesh! you are going to turn me into a greater meddler than I already am.

It is super frustrating, not knowing what is going on. The Leghorn chicks that died after internal pip, looked perfect... and the membrane was movable.. not stuck or sticky or anything bad. I saw NO reason why they wouldn't have been able to move and make an exterior pip.

I just don't understand!

that's the 2 calls. The one internally pipped had about half a yolk sac left on it. I've been told by several that after they start breathing that the air exchange between egg and chick isn't fast enough and the act of suffocating is what causes them to Crack the shell so they can breath. The one that externally pipped had about a dime size section o yolk not absorbed when it quit. I had very little to no water the entire time and air cells are spot on size wise.
