Dixie Chicks

I have 45+ chick's coming next week and don't know where to put them. Guess I'm going to play musical brooders to get them in. I've got 20+ the week after. Why do I keep hatching? Lol.

Lol! Heffner had fewer kids than I do, but definitely every man's hero Lol!

So then what is the best way to turn eggs that are upright in a brinsea 7

If I remember correctly Brinsea is designed to be tilted from side to side to side.... or is it that round one...

IF its the round one if you could affix it to a square board then tape a piece of pvc under it in the center now you can tip the whole incubator from side to side.

I took a bunch of pics with my crappy phone, but after uploading them, only one turned out OK. So here it is:

All in all we ended up with 21 chicks. Little girl and I must've miscounted because we didn't lose any. The one we thought was spraddle legged, is NOT

. I changed the bedding to shredded paper instead of just flat newspaper and it is fine now. YEAH!

I have a writing pen that has l.e.d. flashing lights in it. So, I did a test on my possibly blind chick. She is definitely blind. For now, she is eating, drinking ok-not as much as the others. She is smaller than the others and when she fumbles over to the waterer, she falls in. Not a big deal now, because there are marbles in the water. We also have to put the feeder and waterer in the same spot so she can find it. My little girl wants to keep it of course. But I am unsure about the future of this chick. With 123 chickens, we don't have time to run around and coddle one chick. Reality.

As for the double yolker, I did an assist hatch after the others were popped out. I candled it 1st and seen no movement or heartbeat. When I got the egg open, the 1st yolk had not developed at all which is what we had determined from candling. The 2nd had developed, but stopped somewhere in the middle and was dead.

I am still really happy with a 50% hatch rate considering most of those eggs were SCRUBBED and all were washed. I really had no expectations because of washing off the bloom. My next batch is in the incubator! And they were not washed. We'll see what happens around May 21st!

Well, I gotta get ready for work. Computer is super slow this morning. I'll try to get pics with a better camera later this week.

@Outpost JWByour blind Chick will more than likely buddy up with another and be f ine. I've had several blind and theybuddy up and even free range with the others.
