Speaking of hobbit holes... One of the bunnies had figured out how to climb upstairs today. It was telling Hilma it wants milk, but she wouldn't have any of that right now. Later the little guy had found it's way downstairs again.

I think we'll keep them with mommy for at least another 4-5 weeks. Then we might need to start thinking of separating the boys. We'll probably try to keep the girls in the same hutch with Hilma though. We'll have to see how they develop size and decide about butchering based on that. The plan is to keep one doe from the litter, so that Hilma has company, and then we'll have a litter with her next spring. We'll have to see how it works out, we might still make another litter with Hilma this year. I don't know how it would work to keep another litter in the same pen with 2 months older bunnies, but if it's possible it would be nice.

I haven't had much experience with quail, but at the Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki, they have this tropical greenhouse space, where quail run free inside. They're pretty cool there. They also have a chicken coop with free range chickens, it's maybe 30 by 100 feet, and they usually have about 30-40 landrace chickens in there along with about 50 quail. It's pretty cool. It's inside, but it's built like a outside space, plants grow in there and they have a dirt floor.
