Dixie Chicks

lol! I should elaborate more I guess. I hatched one lonely guinea last year, a little royal purple hen. She grew up with the ducks, and runs with the ducks, and guards the ducks. Doesn't act like a guinea at all. Hence duck guinea.
kewl need pictures :)...I need take some pictures of dumpling he is HUGE and noodle is still on the smallish scale..is definitely a different turkey then dumpling and probly a hen...

Bonjour.

I've been a bit busy with work, so not as much time for BYC as usually. Bunnies are growing nicely, soon it's time to separate the boys from the rest of the fluffy little things. Our initial count is two boys, six girls.

Chicks are growing too, they're about 9 weeks old now I think. I saw Eemeli trying to mate one of the pullets yesterday, she's a bit small for that still, and she was not pleased at all. Emma hasn't started laying again yet, but she's getting redder every day. Töyhtis and Wilma have boosted their production, and brought up the size of their eggs too.

Maters seemed to suffer from being moved out into the cold, most of the leaves they had then look like they're starting to die. Luckily they're growing new leaves quite nicely too. The chilis that went outside are doing much better, but I still have six of them inside. The Apaches are producing like crazy already, and there's flowering on the others too. Sunchokes broke ground about a week ago, and we planted carrots and beans in the weekend. I still need to start some more stuff next weekend.

Work is going nicely, I really like my colleagues, they're as inappropriate as I am.

Hope everyone is doing well, and those that aren't, I hope you soon will be.

Bama
I'm ready to cook some of these greens...
Hey does it freeze well? The mustard and turnip greens?
your only just starting to harvest from the garden?

Hi, Sammy.

Jem, you should definitely plant some sunchokes. They can be a bit invasive though, so I'd suggest container gardening.

Yeah, a lot of peppers growing already. I don't know how big these Apaches will get, but they should start turning red soon I think. Here's the most developed plant:

The biggest peppers are a bit over an inch tall so far. And my tallest pepper plants (the Thai Dragonchilis) are almost three feet tall.

You should blanch them before freezing. Yes they freeze very well.
You will need to wash them very well. Nothing worse than gritty greens.
I cut up a few slices of bacon. Brown it in a pot. Throw in about 1/2 cup diced onion. A few cloves of smashed garlic. Put in the greens. Add chicken broth until the greens are covered. Cover and boil for about 45 mins to an hour. Salt to taste....sometimes if they taste bitter we add a pinch or two of sugar and a splash of red wine vinegar
