Dixie Chicks

@vehve dude, a three day acupuncture course makes you qualified to stick needles into people? I would be so terrified that I would run away from home.

@tntchix
You don't know what band it was huh? Black shirt...big red heart, crown of thorns, heart bleeding..... Sheesh, I actually went to the concert. hummmmm I remember going to a Jethro Tull concert... don't think that would be their kind of shirt though

Sad.... can't remember my own life.

First Aid Kit:
I just let them die if they look sick, or kill them if they look sick and uncomfortable

However, there are a few things that I will doctor, and some odd things that I keep on hand

sterile suture kit (needle and thread), I bought that after having to sew a chicken together with a regular sewing needle and cotton thread. The cotton thread worked fine, and I steralized the needle first with fire, then soaked the needle and thread in vodka, but WOWSERS, it turns out that sewing needles are about as sharp as butter knives, and I had a bunch of stitches to do on that chicken! (A Bald Eagle had landed on her, but I scared the eagle off, and she was still alive)

locking foreceps actually, I use those suckers for EVERYTHING. I love them, can't have enough of them.

dog crates, water and feed holders to go on the dog crate door. I have a great many dog crates, many different sizes. All are old, and rusty, but they work.

Hydrogen pyroxide it does a good job of washing off every trace of blood.

Shriners Herbal Spray I bought it for my horses, but it works well on everything under the sun. It is an all natural, but FUNCTIONAL anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, help it heal thing.

To stop bleeding I just use pantry stuff, flour or corn starch and pressure. If it were bad, you could always crush it closed with the locking forceps. You smash closed and twist the ends of capillaries to get them to stop bleeding.

To pep up birds, I just give them honey water or a bit of peanut butter.

I should probably keep super glue around too for smaller wounds, but I just can't keep that 'in stock' at my house, it is used too fast.

think you lost me a bit there???can you expand on that? I mean I get the gene needed for the egg but confused where you had the problem? or is it you wanted blue egg gene but got green?

Yeah, wanted new stock to breed with my current stock. My current stock lays pure blue, but these were fully green. If I mix them, them what I get will lose that pure blue. Cream Legbars should lay blue, but green is accepted as well (in UK, as US APA hasn't accepted them yet).

how old are they now @tntchix ? and thats awesome thank you so much for sharing!

thats a good point @vehve do you think that m,ight be better for say a processing kit as aposed to first aid? or would you have to keep processing versus medical stuff separate because of illness and stuff?
There will be NO chicken surgery !!!!
... on live chickens

Jem, I'd keep something to kill them with handy at all times. I have a pair of garden shears about 2 meters from the coop. But I wouldn't mix used processing stuff in with first aid stuff.
Oh yeah, we have a billion knives, so I think we are covered there.....

I don't understand not using the same knife for all activities.... just wash it. I guess if you think that the bird had some horrid disease, then that would be different.... but

@tntchix forgot to say thanks for posting the Wyandotte pictures and the entire write-up about breeding with wyandottes... (that was you, right? anyway...) it was very informative. A bit eye-opening too.

Alaskan, it was NotAFarm who explained the lacing breeding, lol. Is great to see tntchix pics too!

Al, good point about super glue, great for small cuts. Use it on myself too.

The acupuncture course is a introductory course for veterinarians. But the principles are the same for animals and humans, so she tested it a bit on me. With two needles she cut down blood flow to my hand pretty efficiently, it got really cold. Weird stuff.

that makes sense.. ok so what would you get colorwise if you crossed green with blue gene? is it like if you wanna get an olive egger?

I applaud your adventurous spirit, vehve! That is too freaky for me, lol.
