Dixie Chicks

Good morning all.

Dark pic, but these are the 5 new baby chicks. Most have the skunk stripe as the SS is my main roo. One possibly has something wrong with it's beak. I'll check it out later. Mama hen gets super angry when you mess with her babies!

Here's my little girl with my favorite hen. This hen was hatched out of purchased eggs spring 2014. She is a Blue Copper French Marans.

@perchie.girl -Haven't seen you post in a while.....In fact, there are a few people I miss.....Where is
@tntchix ? Everything good with you? @vehve , What's up with you? You going to breed your rabbits again before winter? I'm thinking about it. One more time.

Well, I gotta get ready for work.

You all have a great day!

I just realized the Ancona ducks are only 2 months old!!

They only hatched around May 16th...I kept thinking they are in the 3-4 month age and that it wouldn't be long for the girls to start laying. Well, maybe not... silly! But there are definitely quackers in there, possibly 3 girls, 2 boys. They just look so mature compared to how chickens mature...

At least the cayuga's are in the 4-5 month range...

@minihorse927 when do your Ancona's start laying?

5 to 6 months, unless winter sets in before that age, then they lay in February or March here.

You all have a great day!

I am here reading... kind of detached.... my usual cycle... Missing my critters big time. missing home.. another chunk of tooth cracked off last night. No pain.... just a hole. Been inundated with "drop in" company from out of town... grandmas birthday is next week so I forgive em. but its taken alot out of me.

In other words I am not good company right now.

Deb, hopefully your mood will lighten up during the day. I had that start happen with my teeth. The enamel just fell off a few. I blame it on the meds I've been on. And I feel unrealistically put out when visitors come. Like I can't go sit with the chickens, I can't run to the barn, It's not the right way to think but I can't help but think they're an intrusion, LOL. I think my priorities need an overhaul.

My Crevecoeur decided to stand up yesterday. I'm tube feeding so she gets enough fluid and antibiotic. She's got 5 more days to start eating on her own. I can't help but wonder if she is suffering from lack of B vitamins. If there's something wrong with her small intestine like a low grade infection, the vitamin B's are not going to be absorbed. Or she has paralysis from Marek's. There's just so many things that can affect chickens.

I been clinically depressed most of my life.... only diagnosed after my son was born. i had a panic attack and was afraid to go to the mail box.... They put me on different meds to "fix it" didnt work. So Now I know I can deal with it. I cycle through out the year. its like watching a sine wave on an oscilloscope....

I do get better when I can get out of the house. and do nothing but sit outside somewhere. Missing home is part of that... I used to tell people I live where the earth breathes.... Sun and Wind are my friends.... Here i get neither. Mom just called and needs to go to the store... she doesnt drive. My life these days is waiting for the whims of two old angry women. Love em to death... but sometimes I just want to run away.

I inherited dads teeth by the time he was sixty nine he had worn them off to the gum line. little chunks would come off.... This last bit was from the very last back tooth on the lower left. Part of the filling actually the tooth has already disappeared and all that was left was the filling core. I bit down on a tomato seed....

Hope you can pull your Crevecoeur through. And that shes been immunized and only gotten the milder form... Is there a home test for Mericks?

So October or November... November will be a winter month. Plus I am not sure how much the chickens and ducks are going to be affected by construction noise. If all goes to plan, our house should arrive end of October. Just waiting on the final word on financing before we start the foundation excavation.

Briard I added dry nettle to my FF they loved it. Not sure about fresh... It makes good soup (creme of nettle)
Could you add it fresh? There is so much of it, I could try a plant in there.

I am not much help here, but I hope you do get this figured out. As with any living thing, a lack of anything really can lead to complications. Sounds like you are taking the right path if the little girl is trying to stand up.
