Dixie Chicks

Kind of weird placement to put the lines under the driveway, if you think about it. Places where the snow would normally be left to insulate would be a lot better.
And what's really bad is that he only dug the septic line in to a depth of 2 feet, so 60cm! What a lot of people don't realize is that once you remove snow or drive or walk over ground you literally drive the frost down. And at -30,well your frost line is deeper then 2 feet. We just keep thinking "!8!07" when we think about the previous owners.

He should have gone 7 or more feet! In our first winter those were all things we didn't know...

We had to redo our well water line last summer and dug that in to 8 feet in an area we don't use in the winter. No problems the following winter.

And a couple duck vids because they were being cute when they got moved.

Golf balls work in a pinch.... Or smooth round rocks...

aww forgot about that been so busy but also not make time to even shop for the golfballsmaybe walmart next trip
Easy to do, just have to find barrels, people around here seem to want $40 for them!

I have 4 nest boxes, 2 of them have a golf ball in them. My chickens all seem to prefer to lay in the top left nest box that has the golf ball in it. My new Ancona duck lays her egg with the bottom row golf ball. I am still surprised to find her eggs a foot off the ground in a nest box!

That is cool, I didn't think they were that hard to come across, at least not in my area. here..
sweet :)

Good point
I still like free better
free good! free and delivered even better!

Broody/hospital pen, 2 story. Just need to paint and put up the door and the vent covers.
too kewl... but wont the lattice be a problem for chicks or is this just for broodys sitting not raising young?....chicks gonna escape even wire they are sneakier then mice

Lol
I had lattice so I used it (chicken wire on the inside so chicks don't escape)
The coop is 16x16
The broody pens are 6x4 (3ft tall)

what kind of wire

Poop trays and roosts

awesome!
MAN, I miss checking in here often. Where else can you check in....discover someone else is walking and being more active...and have advice from Alaska, no less, about the relationship between blubber and muscle...

and top it all off with poop trays and roosts. Gotta love it.

Tmobile-Esperian hacked me. (but Home Depot had hacked me first.)

I joined a local rec ceter and have indulged in "senior fitness" (sort of a misnomer).

I miss you guys....I am not on the computer much....I am mad at the internet...

Ducks are your down fall, superior layers and excellent ratio of meat to $$$$.....But they are 'pigs'....

pigs pigs pigs pigs
Beer, what?

The feds are now looking where I click?
big brother is everywhere

Dang @minihorse927 if only you lived closer!

@Outpost JWB winter is slowly approaching us too. Hoping fall will stick around for another 4 weeks here. I hear you on cleaning out the coop. Mine isn't in desperate need, the shavings look used, but aren't filthy. If winter was to stay away I could get away without cleaning for at least another month. But I really don't want to push the wheel barrel around in the snow should snow show it's ugly face.
At this rate, snow will probably show in the next 2-3 weeks and I really don't want to clean the coop just yet
eww snow

@hennible Turkeys are fun, so dumb, but so funny! Do it!!!! My turkey hen started to lay last week, her eggs are huge! Come spring, I plan to hatch every one of them for our own turkey meat. 3 Females will go into the breeding pen, the rest will get sold or eaten.
My turkeys are smart.... I think noodle is smarter then dumpling though

Hello everyone

I am sorry I have been so quiet. It's been just crazy. My 2nd barn with birds collapsed recently and now everyone is overcrowded and the rain this week has made the outside runs a mess. I'm selling everything but my ancona, a trio of snowy calls, my isabel/brown leghorns, English orps, mandarin duck pair, Swedish flowers. I may keep a trio of black ohiki.

This sucks but I'm overwhelmed and the birds are too overcrowded now. I can't wait till I am down in numbers. I can't believe I am saying that.

I honestly miss spending my time with the horses. I was always a top contender with my my minis. Now I am lucky to have the time to keep stalls clean and horses fed. I want to be able to be a contender again. I have a horse that could go to nationals and win easy if I had the time to train him and work him. This has been coming for the past year and it's finally hit hard when that barn fell.

I felt something was wrong but you seemed to need your space.... that can be the problem with life sometimes so many interesting things to do and only so much time in our everyday

I really want to sell them all but that's just stress talking and I know I'll regret it. If I can get down to where I've got less than 30 or so birds, I'll be ok

hugs.gif
thats a wise thing reduce and take your time ajusting to things see where you want to be before walking away with hands up overwhelmed because of everything...you always have option to sell everything "if" when you have reduced your back in more managable and less overwhelming circumstances
Hey guys,

Been a bit busy lately, but checking in again.

Recap:

New puppy, this little guy is named Myrkky (Poison).

Chickens are doing well, we've got 5 girls and 2 boys at the moment.

Eggs are coming in nicely, just got our 900th egg yesterday.

Bunnies are good too. Along with Hilma, we've got two left from the first litter, they went on a romantic date on Friday. From the second batch, we processed 3 yesterday, and are probably going to do the rest next weekend. I gotta tell you, processing bunnies is so much easier than chickens, if you want to raise something for meat, that's the go to species. And this colony type cage has been working great for us. It will be interesting to see how it does in the winter.

The compost is doing well too, I've got about a cubic yard of soil waiting for next year at the moment.

And lastly, Karin and I are good too. I think that about covers it. What's up with you guys?

awesome!! cute pup.. I'm well maddly busy wishing summer would fight a bit harder to stick around
Good Morning , getting colder here , temps dropping to the minus's , daytime temps still good , a lot of sun and finally no more rain . Piggy's are gaining weight so we'll see what they look like in December , might just butcher them all , less hassle ? Butchered my four white turkeys ...43 KG or 95lbs so a lot of meat , but costly to raise and process so doubtful that I'll do that again . But getting ready for the cold to come , firewood is home for the most part , should be good to go there , got about three to four cords to cut up on the mill for timbers so there will be slabs coming yet .
I really like My turkeys I think I will continue with a couple... I'm waiting to process the tom when 50 gets back home...I think he's easily going to weight out 35 pounds I suspect much more...

I think Henni just volunteered to built us all coops, LOL

Ohh goodie!!!!!

Did something funny today. Dumped a bucket of duckweed in their run, and tossed a boneless pork chop in whole usually I cut stuff like that up so they don't fight over it. Thirty chickens running around stealing it from each other like football players. I watched them for ten minutes, not a one of them getting a chance to take a bite out of it, hilarious!!
hehe I love watching that makes me laugh and laugh...especially the chicks....
