Dixie Chicks

has anyone seen @Cynthia12 or @superchemicalgirl or know if their hatchlings are done or anything?

@vehve she isnt being all mean or staying in the nest box or anything infact she is first to run out to free range and everything.....

it's a catch22 it might be nice if she went broody so she could look after these chicks for me, but then I also want to keep eggs going lol she is my only layer atm still, and been a heck of a trooper have gotten an egg everyday for the last month and a half or two...would she still lay eggs when she tends the chicks?

@perchie.girl the pork fat you want to render into lard are you going to do something specific with it or?

I think @Sharps Big 50 should make me cookies today

I am not a fan of pickled eggs from the store.... But I have pickled them myself.... I regularly pickle onions and after a couple of rounds of pickled onions I have thrown in a couple of hard boiled eggs. The juice in the container by now is pickled onion / garlic / and a little salt and herbs. I leave the eggs in till just the white has absorbed the juice.... maybe a day or two.

Makes EGGCELLENT egg salad...or deviled eggs.

I use the same onion pickle to do Beets as well.... Roast beets then slice and throw into the onion pickle mix.... Yummmm... two hours or two days is all it takes.

but to cut down on the vinegar taste you dont use full on vinegar use vinegar diluted with a little water.... In this case its onion moisture.... Which is a teeny bit sweet.

I use the pickled onions as a side dish, or chop and make tarter sauce out of it for fish... Or lay pickled onion rings on top of fish while they are poaching.... Or chop and saute with what ever meat for a seasoning....
