Dixie Chicks

Well, it turns out that when you get turkeys, you are supposed to either get a bunch of them, or put them in with some cornish cross chicks. We didn't know that, so we bought 2, Christmas and Thanksgiving. That meant we had to show them how to eat, about once every 45 minutes for a full week!

After that, they started to eat and drink on their own,

but they were always cold!! Much more temperature sensitive that chickens or ducks or geese.

And THEN a bear got into the pond coop, and even though he didn't touch the turkeys.... I guess because of the stress, one suddenly looked poorly, I couldn't get him to pep back up, even when I moved him back to the warm house etc., so Christmas died (I loved telling people that

)and Thanksgiving was super sad to be all alone. The ducks let him hang out with him while he was still small, but once he got older they started to bully him, and he was STILL cold! I had to keep him in the insulated coop!

So, I had to keep him in a dog crate.... one day he got out of his dog crate, and catching him and steering him back in, I broke his wing!!!

So, when we butchered him his one wing was all zombie flesh.

Anyway, you just have GOT to be kidding.... never again!

ok @Alaskan you been advertised on facebook again :D

you take such good care of me!

Here they are again. The greenish-gray (as @Alaskan said) eggs are from 3rd generation olive egger. At 1st I could wash off the brown coating. Now it cant be washed off. Must have been something about when she 1st started laying......?

Not having a good morning here. SO COLD OUT! Dryer decided to fling the door open in the middle of the night, so my clothes are not dry, coffee pot is acting up. I cannot live without coffee.

The hours I work, it is imperative I have coffee.

I haven't read thru all the posts yet, but was wondering did any of you have New Year's Dinners? Every New Year's Day we eat Sauerkraut with Smoked Sausage. I am German & it is our family tradition to have sauerkraut. I am told it means your family will prosper in the New Year.

I really like the different egg colors. I only have one olive egger, and she lays very dark olive eggs.... guess I need to take a picture.

Food? Special food? Nah, not us.

omgosh I am cold cold cold cold cold .. dashing thru the house shivering my bejeebers off...someone turn up the fire.. I'm gonna bury myself in as many blnkets as I can @Alaskan Alaskan why you send this cold down here...

dont mind me I;ll be the mound of blankets you hear chattering teeth from!

Sounds like something I would say...... it is still just at and above freezing here.... nice and warm considering the time of year.... AND I have the fire going. Even with all of this typing my fingers aren't cold!

Getting bit hurts... even the bruising after isn't fun

@Alaskan maybe you should try turkeys again, get 6 of them. I didn't know you should keep more then 2... anyway, call them Christmas, Christmas Came Again, Christmas Back Up. etc...
