Dixie Chicks

Maybe that's the issue @Alaskan For now they are in the house. Hopefully the cat won't figure out how to open the lids and they'll have more hours of light.

Any idea on what to feed them to fatten them up or just stick to the 25% protein feed?I

I had Pheasants and they would for some reason pick on one in the flock and not allow it to feed ? seen it with chickens as well ?? not sure why but it can happen .......bullying in the flock

I think I used to feed mine 28%, anyway, turkey starter.

However, I think the increased daylight is all you need to do.

Try crushing or crumbling some sunflower seed , high oil content
Aaah, I shall try that! Thank you!!

I can't get any feed higher then 25% here and it's pheasant starter.

Carbs fatten people up nicely, might work with quail too.
Mhm.. carbs taste so good. I have some potato skins left over from my baked potato last night. They'll get that tonight lots of potato left in there too.

Black oil sunflower seeds are good briard. My quail will eat them whole so you may try it with yours. If they won't eat them, then you could grind them up. Make sure to offer grit on the side also if you offer a whole grain feed

I used to add supplemental light. Keeps them all laying. The last couple winters I didn't and we still get enough eggs we don't have to buy any. I've had young ones come into lay in the middle of winter, same this yr, while daylight is on the downside. I'd rather let nature take its course now days and let them decide. My EEs took a break, saw my best one lay a egg today while I was feeding them :-)
