Well the redhaven peach may have potential (thanks Deb) but those are grown in the okanogan, that's a good three zones warmer than me, so it would take some serious garden trickery (fruit wall, huge mounds or something). There are mini types that can grow in containers, those would be good in a greenhouse. Perhaps a graft onto a hardy plum root stock... Lol I'm too lazy and cash restricted for any of that though.

Oldest daughter when she was four brought in a handful of 'berries' that winter and wanted to know what kind they were??
It was a handful of dried up big round wild rabbit 'berries' she found under white currant berry bushes behind the barn....Lol.
Dropped them on the floor pretty quick, mom says 'you didn't eat any did you!!!' Lol, kids...
lol my grandfather use to call those smart pills

Not really that worried, more interested. But yeah, parasites are always a possibility.

Oh, did I tell about our elk encounter the other day? The dogs started barking on our walk, but we didn't see anything at first, until we spotted a young male from last years batch lying about 20 meters from us. It wasn't reacting to anything, so we thought it was hurt. I held the dogs while Karin went a bit closer to take a look at it (We didn't want to call the hunting club in case nothing was wrong with it, as it probably wouldn't have been there anymore by the time they got there). She couldn't see any wound, so she started to circle behind it to see if there's a blood trail. When she was about 2 meters from it, it got up and faced her. Now, I don't know how close any of you have ever been to a young male elk, but 2 meters is definitely less than what anyone should feel comfortable with. Luckily there was a fallen tree between them, she kept the roots as a shield in front of her. Every time she took a step back, it took a step towards her. Finally, after 2 minutes of staring at each other he turned around a bit, and Karin managed to back out quickly with her tail between her legs. Talk about an adrenaline rush.

agreed and ,makes the best jerky!
Oh I've looked, peaches just don't grow here... Not with out some hard core effort (like Sepp Holzer style). I was just being a turd....

Speaking of turds my baby scovy drake has taken to blocking my moms dog door so her dogs can't go out... I think it's funny, she does not.
you need the right micro climate

Deb, our elk bulls top out around 1500 lbs too. This guy was young though, only about 1000 lbs I'd say. Yeah, never approach a mommy with a calf, or a male in heat. Or really, any elk or moose :p.

Had our Apple trees 3 years now. 2 different varieties. They have not grown much and never produced anything. They are dwarf varieties. I planted some raspberry bushes on the side of the house & they have not grown much either. In the spring I just break off the previous year's cane. They will grow a couple handfuls of berries. Not enough.

Planted mulberry bushes last year. They are just little twigs now. We also have a wild blackberry patch out back that we mow around. Now that patch can put off the berries! Got 13 quarts summer 2014. Not to mention all that the birds ate!

Can't sleep! Should be time allowed off work for non sleeping nights......it's totally pouring down snow and ice right now. I want flowers & chicks & spring!

JWB, you sure you're not breaking the cane that's about to produce? I've understood that they grow the cane the first year, then produce berries on it the second year. So you should only break canes that have already given harvest, otherwise you're not allowing the bush to produce. I don't do anything to our raspberries, and they make berries fine. I might have to start limiting their growth a bit this summer though, they were already looking a bit wild last year.
