Dixie Chicks

decided to shift my aquirm plant light over a bit to do double duty by helping to grow the tomato seedlings, gonna add some other warm weather seeds into this tray.....cold weather seedlings are going strong in the greenhouse

In one week it will be sunrise as 0635 and sunset at 1827 here, and daylight will be 38 minutes longer, it's crazy how fast it happen this time of the year. In one month, we'll have sunrise at 0622 and sunset at 2027 (Daylight savings shifts the times by an hour in between). And by the time we shift into May, we'll be up to 16 hours of light, that's more like it. In July I'll be complaining that it's never dark.

Sure, sure...it is spring LIKE... the like part accentuated because it is spring like...not SPRING in the sense of what smart Canuck Gardeners would term it as.

Up here in the GREAT WHITE NORTH (yeh, it is still WHITE alright!) and whilst it gets to melting pluses, it still goes to minus seven at night...freezes rock hard and thick--like my tete, eh.

This is me VEGETABLE garden yesterday...see that solid WHITE mass of moisture ever so slowly melting and disappearing but still thar?

Anyone wanting to work this (working in my garden), get me a snow shovel and it'll be coined WORKING IN THE GARDEN if one wants to do that now.

Now keep in mind, there is green grass UNDER the white...it will be GREEN here soon enough...but only a fool would be enticed to go hog wild and think this spring will stay. Spring is visiting is a better way to enjoy it. Lap it up like the dogs do.

See that blue 45 gallon barrel lid...it sits upon a French Drain ... of sorts--vertical drain, not horizontal like the French Drains we had under my WEsT Coast greenhouse and veg garden to help lower the likelihood of stenchy, putrid garden muds. Rick dug a big hole, stood a drilled fulla holes culvert and then added wash rock all around it. We can put down a small pony pump inside the culvert if'n the melt from loads of too much white stuff threatens to flood this area (that's my garden shed there)...but so far, this has been a wimpy winter compared to the ones in past two years.

June FIRST...I am SO not getting sucked into growing things too early to be over whelmed with big plants inside (like a jungle--lil' house of HORRORS, eh) that I have no place to put out. Not like the Calgarians running to have their winter tires removed...oh yeh, do that and WHAMO with the black ice causing one to crash. Winter tires can come off in April or May...or all seasons if'n you are more prone like us to snow every month of the year

Now the wilds flying abouts things ARE getting messed up...Seen in the city past weekend, Canuck Geese and dang STARLINGS...them and Cow Birds...not a huge fan of either of those ones but will give them their space if they don't get too much in my face, eh.

City Starlings--YUCK...so STAY THAR....STAY....

I'd tell someone to go suck rocks but you still can't FIND any under the white...not quite yet, eh.

Driveway is being dewintered by Chinook winds and warmth. I truly hope we don't regret this warmth in the case of fire season and drought later on this year...but who knows, eh.

One May we had heli-waterbombers buzzing (scene outta M*A*S*H) the quarter next to us when their abandoned wood lathing burst into flames.

Had to chip out the New Orchard gate because the water that had melted the day prior, had frozen up thick enough I could not easily lift the frozen in gate.

Nope, spring is just visiting...has for all of February but I got dog showing training and nice cloth sewing on my schedule...not pen cleaning and planting...not quite yet and me sticking to my guns and staying on course for my To Do list...fur now, eh!

If'n I get caught up, yeh, I'll start up spring cleaning and composting...but too busy and amused with properly scheduled time of year fun stuffs.
