Dixie Chicks

What is your current pet chicken project?
Currently I am working on merging up 4 Small runs into One, 2 Lavender Isables cuckoo Eng Orp runs, 1 White eng Orp run, 1 Blue Buff Columbians Orp run in hopes of attaining a Porcelain coloring. I have never seen a Porcelain Orpington and don't know of any One doing so. Deliberately not using any solid Lavenders or Blues bc I am afraid of them Over powering the others. Thinking of using Blue Jubilee or Blue Partridge. Any ideas? Anyone? Have already been working on Tolbunt Orpingtons by breeding Jubilee Roo with a Gold Laced Eng Orp hen and taking their off spring to breed to the off Spring of a Silver Laced Eng Orp Roo with a Jubilee hen. Will see what the off spring do this Spring and by end of Summer they should have juvenile Chicks.

No projects here outside of the thought of crossing Sumatras and some sort of blue egg layer... Have to have some Chickens to do that though....

Sounds interesting, though I'm no help with complex genetics, but would love for you to update as you go!

I have a bantam frizzle cochin cock that I didn't even realize was carrying muff/beard gene until I hatched some eggs from a small chocolate orp, covered by him. The bearded/muffed/feather-legged girls have really grown on me! 2 black smooth, and one blue frizzled. The father is now away from the other cochin girls, and penned with his offspring, so I'm thinking of hatching some, to see if they will carry the cochin look, small and round, feathered legs, and keep the beard and muffs.

I've googled bearded cochins, and don't find very many.

That happens, lol...

Sorry for all the epic losses, everyone... :(

Congrats on the bouncing baby boy, Briard Chickens!!!

Fails and losses this year... had super hot summer, lost a couple hens and a cockerel to what seemed to just be heatstroke... added electrolytes and vites to their water, losses stopped... weather started cooling down and ducks started having breathing problems... got scared I had a severe respiratory issue... just as a last resort with my special needs girl, I tried dewormer... come to find out, my entire flock got severely infested with gapeworms... awful, nasty worms... a real pain to treat... found some tapeworms as well...

Losses were my best black split Ameraucana hen and my last Cream Legbar boy...

Epic fail... my Lav Orpington/Australorp cross project... finally got to 2 Lav pullets and at almost 9 months they haven't laid a single egg... :/

Anyways...

I was wondering the same thing, and how her duck egg business was doing. Wonder how a few more have been, remember that one that was on here a lot and then had a tree fall on his coop and never got on here again?

Still alive, sorry I haven't checked in on what seems like forever.
Hennible is right, we welcomed our baby boy just 6 weeks ago
