If I know I'm going to raise meaties, I get a whole bunch the same color. En mass like that they're kind of just a mob. The first one is always toughest to do, but when you're processing a batch of them it's just a grit-the-teeth routine. I give them the destiny talk (probably mainly for my own feelings) before the deed and thank them for being such a good feeder. And, honestly, once the head is off they all look the same. With a batch of meaties it's not like I'm cuddling them...it's pretty much just feeding and cleanup. And rock crosses are kind of disgusting birds...they fall asleep with their heads in chow pan. Oink, oink.that brings up an awesome question! How do people handle processing versus raising their flocks? How do people deal with the loss of a chicken they may or may not be attached to when maintainting their flock be it for processing for meat, or a bird just doesnt fit into your breeding program overall idea of what you want your flock to be like??
For Myself.. I am friendly to all my birds I'm of the mind that I try to give them the best lil feathered life they have with plenty of shelter, food, affection ect..and they gift me with substance to feed me and my family...but not everyone is like that how does everyone else deal with it?
I think Marshmallow's chick is adorable. What was its breeding again? Give it another two weeks and you'll probably know for sure. But at this point I'm not seeing pink wattles or very thick legs.

And because I didn't say it earlier... Welcome!![]()
Sam, he woke you with his noisy snow removal? Very rude... I think he should limit his maintenance work to daylight hours and make you a cup of coffee immediately. Maybe some breakfast too.
