Culling the flock? I don't have a problem with it, I just have to get drunk first! I better get used to it we are starting a flock of heritage meat birds next year. I don't enjoy it but I know it must be done and if you seen how the store bought ones are raised and butchered you would want to do it yourself too. At least I know my birds had a good happy healthy life. I did't have a hard time offing the heads of some of the roos, they were mean. But the polish, white cochins, and a white leghorn were hard to do. They were beautiful birds.
 
I think it's $5 here also. One thing I am going to build is a homemade chicken plucker, drill style but I'm going to use a motor off a old table saw I have. It's belt driven. There is tons of YouTube videos on building and using them. The feathers fly off!
 
I think I should try to put together something next year. I have a nice old stainless steel top out at the cottage, I might bring that here and make a processing table out of it. It might come in handy, especially if we get the rabbits (Storey's guide to raising rabbits arrived in the mail today, looks like someone's been on Amazon again...)
