Dixie Chicks

I had one chick that had the entire back of the neck peeled open.  Actually, I was very impressed that the chick still had full mobility.

Anyway, we just washed off the wound, and then kept her in a cage by herself while it healed.  We did NOT doctor it, or antibiotic it, or whatever it.

She healed up wonderfully.  And what is so amazing is that there is no bare spot.  She looks perfect (I haven't felt all over to see if there is any kind of scaring).

So.... I don't think you need to doctor the chick....  she will be fine.  However, food and water are important.  :D   Actually, mine was a bit stressed with being all alone, so I put her cage in one end of my bathtub.  The bathtub had my half grown quail.  Then she settled down, since she was no longer alone.  But she was still in her own cage, so no one would get hurt.

me too.... BUT, you know the second you are standing naked in front of a window, you are going to look down and see the FedEx man looking up at you.

You can see my neighbours I don't give a rats butt if they see me walk through my house naked... Lol

Al, yeah, definitely no antibiotics. But it looks pretty nasty, basically the whole left side of the neck is bare on a inch long area, all the skin has peeled off. So topical products it is.

yep... I visualized that

My chick was just as bad, and a bit swollen too, bright red, no skin left for me to sew back together. I was kind of worried that a large amount of muscle was also missing...

except that she did have full function.

It went from the back base of her skull down about an inch. Anyway, most of the neck, but the shoulders were not involved.

Here it doesn't look like any muscle would be damaged, although there isn't much muscle there either. There are a few scrapes on the muscle, but mainly it (the skin) has just been peeled back. Silly chick hadn't figured out drinking from the bowl, I now showed the bowl to it properly and it's been drinking for several minutes. Must be pretty dehydrated.

Sorry about the chick vehve. Hope she does well. Always assume chicks are pullets until proven otherwise. No sense in jinxing the odds.

I want all this in my Mud Room. And a 3/4 bath nearby it.

@chickwhispers

totally with you on the mudporch!

For you dog owners... I have seen where they have a spot in the mud porch that looks like a shower stall, to wash off your boots and/or the dog.
