Dixie Chicks

Jem, he's doing nicely, and stinking up the place. I can't understand how it took him only a few hours to make the whole house smell bad. It's lovely to come inside when you've been out for a while. I can only imagine how this place smelled when we had six chicks inside last spring. Never again...

Sam, the neighbor grew some pretty nice pumpkins last year, so I think those will do well too. I'll dump them in some raw compost once they've grown a bit, and then magic will happen.
thats odd I have my chicks in the house dont smell anything maybe cuz I use DE? I dunno?

Jem, part of the smell is the vetramil on the wound that's being heated by the lamp. And he did produce quite a lot of loose poops yesterday and during the night. That reminds me, I should probably fetch him some grit at some point too.

Sam, which do you prefer? I haven't cooked with pumpkin that much, but I imagine I'll make a soup out of them, so whatever you think is best suited for that.

You Want sweet pumpkin you can prepare them as soup or pie or a side dish whatever you want... The other ones I have are giant pumpkins, there just for the joy of growing a giant pumpkin...

Sam, yeah, I'll start them inside, and once they're ready to go outside I'll make a nice compost bed for them, dig a hole, put some normal soil in it and dump them in the middle. That way they can grow their roots into the heavy stuff.

Now I just need to convince Karin that it's completely normal to put of shelves in front of the whole living room window to start plants on

I've been hinting of a hanging shelf system for a while, but she hasn't warmed up to the idea quite yet.
