Dixie Chicks

@ perchie Great idea on the stall liner walk. Particularly if a wheelbarrow will go down it! I was going to recommend the "form" that uses concrete to fashion a rock walkway (I have such a form but I have not used it). Once you mentioned the wheelbarrow though, no, my "formed rock" walk would be horrible to push a barrow over. Concrete is cheap, though, the walk would be labor intensive.

I have been letting out the chick I hatched Feb. 21 and his 10-day-older buddy onto a "blanket run" over my new carpet. I "thought" I had them trained (via arm and hand guiding) to pretty much stay on the blanket during their daily time out of the brooder. WRONG. Need to get them into a larger tub, and into a different room.

I did get enough pics to warrant a trip to Walgreens to get them into a form I can upload and post. Gonna do that today.
I used watermelon boxes last year, it's got plenty of space to run around inside LOL

Just remember there are a couple of types of stall matts..... The ones I use are about five eights of an inch thick.... I have seen stall liners that are about a quarter of an inch and are a solid sheet... while tough I dont think they would stay if it were windy.

The only way I can move my stall mats is to use two vice grips about two feet apart in order to get a grip on them... they weigh almost a hundred pounds each.

@tnt Watermelon box! woo hoo :D I have a 100 gal black rubber tub and a lid I fashioned, just need to get it inside and set up. I have been surprised at the instinctive behaviors these chicks have exhibited when "out of the nest." If I leave the room, they run underneath a double rung chair and so far pretty much stay there until I return. They stay very quiet until I return too, just as if ma hen had left them for a few moments of foraging on her own.

WRT raising chicks inside.... I wont ever do it again ever.... even in the dead of winter.

I have said that too! But we just got our rabbits out of our laundry room! Mama and her remaining 3 bunnies.
@vehve , In retrospect, we were absolutely not prepared for the babies. Mama is now in a MUCH better cage, but I think it is still too small for her. Their hutch has stopped production because of lack of time on hubby's part. Hopefully this weekend we will get it done. It's not a two story fancy hotel like yours though

Just playing. All the work you have done looks very nice. Can't wait to see the finished product.
