Dixie Chicks

Amberjem: how many are u trying to buy? Have u thought about ordering from a hatchery? The feed stores order from hatcheries. It would be the same birds without a middle man. Our neighbor ordered from Murray McMurray with pretty good success.
Pretty sure tsc orders from ideal poultry

But picking them up from a feed store etc. you can see how healthy they are, and your less likely to get dead chicks. Sometimes they can be a week or two old if they don't sell, all weak chicks weeded out. That doesn't sound like the case for jem and her 'elusive' golden laced.
I had good luck with Meyer's hatchery, all strong and healthy. Praying SandHill sends strong chicks, fingers crossed.

@Amberjem

there is also an option to order your chicks AT the feed store... Thats how I got my Wellsummers... the Feed store will most likely absorb any non thriving chicks. They can get their money back quicker....

but it means buying a box or 25 minimum... Unless the feed store fills in the rest with something they want... Worth a try.

That's how our local feed store does it.That's where I got my first 15 (their min order)
RIRs, all pullets. They order a lot, and I compared their prices against the hatchery they said they get them from, they must pass some of their bulk order savings on to their customers cause their prices were lower than the hatchery and better yet no shipping charges!

This is the same as our feed store. They get a discount because over the season they get a lot of chicks....also they want you to have a flock so you can buy supplies from them so may be taking a smaller mark-up knowing they'll get more money in the future. My first four layers were ordered through them and were part of an order they put together from several of us that only wanted a few. Same towns have some advantages!
