Ok ghost story
I believe in somethings... I don't believe in others... that's vague lol
ghosts, aliens, I believe in the unexplained having an explanation and some people really do have these experiences... But I believe that our eyes and ears play tricks on us too.
That said my husband and I, a few years ago, were driving through the area between Jasper and McBride ( crossing from BC into Alberta ) and it was pouring rain so it was very, very dark.... that all consuming dark, that makes your headlights nearly useless. DH saw eyes in the ditch and started to let off the gas and slow down for this dear sized animal... and then these shinning white eyes that were in the ditch where on the shoulder of the road... but only 2 feet off the road... We came to a stop... Then this set of eyes and it's huge black body swooped up and it was sort of human shaped... But just vaguely and far too tall... Then it suddenly flew past the car, across the road in front of us, in flash too fast for an owl or anything else... the headlights seemed to be absorbed by how dark the figure was... It was like they were shining into an inconceivably deep hole... on a stormy night, it was somehow darker, with these two white eyes fixed in our direction at all times. We drove on silently for about five minutes after that, before either of us was brave enough to ask the other if they had seen it too. The experience convinced us that we should stay the night in the next, town so we stopped and got a room in Jasper, rather than driving on to Edmonton.

At that time I had never seen the movie "the moth man prophecies", but I was pretty freaked out when I saw it, it sure reminded me of this experience. Anyway that's my most interesting tale of the unknown when we call the thing a phantom... only time I ever saw anything like that. I've seen other things but that was the weirdest...

Wow I have goosbumps from the top of my head down to the bottom of my feet.... That was nO ghost.... and I will share mine another time....

Morning. That's a freaky story, Sambo. I'm glad I don't have a tendency to see that kind of things, I would have gone crazy when I worked night shifts as a security guard. You don't want to believe in ghosts when you know you're alone in a huge building. Especially when it's a building with history.

About putting down animals, I would have thought as a EU country, Germany would have quite similar laws to us. Here the law says that the person putting down an animal must be sufficiently skilled at it, and it must be done without causing unnecessary pain, but it's not defined more clearly than that. Meat that is to be sold has to be inspected, except for some animals (I think elk and deer might be on that list). Most horses aren't eaten, because quite a few of the medications used on horses come with lifetime human consumption bans.

These deer stories remind me of what Karin told me a few weeks ago. Her boss, a woman in her forties, was on her way to go see a man about a horse (I'm not actually sure if the owner was a man or not, but when do you get to use that phrase for real anymore?), when the car in front of her hit a deer. Well, they both pull over, and she quickly goes to check on the driver, an older lady in a state of shock. She checks that the lady is okay, but the lady is more worried about her dog, so she performs a quick vet check on it too and says it's fine. After this, she goes to her car, pulls a knife, walks into the forest, dispatches the still alive deer in there, calls the police to come and check the situation out, checks on the lady in the car once more and tells her to wait there for the cops, and then takes off to go look at the horse.

I'd love to of have been there to hear the lady in the car tell how everything happened from her perspective, it would have been funny to hear. Must be a bit weird when Wonderwoman appears out of nowhere.

Good morning everyone

. Read a bunch, but have a bunch more to read. Never a dull moment. 2:43am here. Temp says -5F (-21C) but news guy says feels like temp is -20F (-28C). Can't wait. Wondering if car is going to start. Yesterday it did, but gave me hesitation. Poor DH has to drive around in our 1997 Ford F150 which has NO HEAT. Very hard to clear off the ice off the windshield. Luckily he works very close. His commute is less than 10minutes. Mine takes 1 hour, each way in good road condition days.

@hennible I been meaning to tell you that I hear a song almost every morning on way to work & I think of your byc name. It is by Maroon 5 called Animal.

Here I go 3am driving down the road singing "Just like Hennible, Hennible, like Hennible. wooh!" LOL!

Well, gotta get more coffee and get going. I discovered last weekend I cannot use the furnace plus anything. If I turn on the blow dryer, clothes dryer, or oven, it kicks a breaker & all power is gone. I am not turning off the furnace, so the other things will not be used until maybe Sunday. DH has to climb over our chain link fence to get to the main breaker box. I checked the other breaker boxes & the problem is not there. DH says we need to get some elec work done & up the amperage. That costs more money than we have now.

My hands are chapped! I am going to try to change my avatar tomorrow! Goals.... Have a good, safe, warm day!

JWB, you should charge the battery in your car if it's hesitant. Does your electricity come in three phases too? That issue sounds like when one of the 25A breakers had broken for us, I had power in half the house. And of course, those three main ones are still the old kind you have to replace. I had to drive to the store to buy new ones.

@Outpost JWB Hey, our temps are the same here! Brrr!
Find out what you can use for a winter oil. I never had a problem with starting my old worn out 1970's trucks and never did this until we bought a dodge stratus with low miles and it wouldn't start when it was this cold. Went from 10w30 to 5w30 oil and it would start instantly, huge difference. Same with my lawn tractor I use for a snowblower. First winter I had to put a battery charger on 200amp jump to start it. With thinner oil it starts on it's own.

Wow thousand posts behind! Quick skim.
Horse meat and slaughter is legal in the USA. President Obama signed a bill legalizing it a few yrs ago on the same day he pardoned a giant white turkey on Thanksgiving.

Vehve,
I am one of the more skeptical people I know. With that said between the phantom experience and the many other experiences I've had related to a "building with history" I'm not sure where I stand on the "belief" side of things. Maybe I shouldn't be so skeptical as I seem to have more than a handful of unexplainable stories. I don't believe that I am crazy but I sometimes have to wonder, in fact I think of myself as a very rational and calculated individual so take from that what you will. Maybe like you mentioned some people just have a tendency to see things. Anyway I believe I am stuck in a loop here, haha.
Have a good day all!
Miss you Hennible, enjoyed the pics of our furry kids.

Punky, I've seen some unexplainable things too, I just choose to believe that there probably is a rational explanation to them. Mostly I'd say that my thoughts on ghosts are about the same as on a higher power. Who am I to say it doesn't exist, I just don't believe in it myself. But to each his own. And it would be pretty cool if ghosts really exist.
