Dixie Chicks

mine pretty much stuck inside the coop for like the first three days which worked out cuz I wanted them to rehome in the henhouse lol and I would open the free range area for the big girls and close them in there and let the chicks have a lil free access in the henhouse pen........noone was mean to them or anything there was a bit of chasing but sure it ws just the whole pecking order thing...... those guys got SUPER fast and sneaky with dashing in for a goodie in the snacks and dashing off to gobble it...they even would snatch the tidbits from the big girls and run off....they were amazingly fast..pretty sure there isnt much faster then a baby chick with a goodie it wants

edited to add.. except for a baby chick trying to get it from another one..cracks me up

The woman I'm getting the cemani crosses from had cream legbar chicks in a outside chick coop. Her heatlamp bulb blew last night and she lost them all. Luckly she has been keeping her cemanis chicks inside.

So there is a huge debate over medicated and not medicated, do you use medication or do you look for alternative things to use and what are they and why? Also how do you deal with worming, when do you find it good to worm and when do you avoid it and why?

Dont medicate dont worm... or havent wormed yet. If I do feel the need I will use trusted methods... Which ever is appropriate.

I have never had a sick chicken nor needed to worm.... I have had mites though. I used Seven dust. At the time that was before BYC and it was suggested through one of the books I had. That got everything but the leg mites. I used vasaline to starve them of oxygen.... No one told me to do that... I just thought it might work... It did.

I was only able to nurse about two months.... He had trouble latching on. Because he was a Franks Breach his feet were up around his face and it messed with his jaw. I had to go to a Lactation specialist to find this out. So I pumped and used that in a bottle. Just to keep the milk going. But it was too late. I had to finally go to formula.

MY good friend Denise nursed till her daughters were almost three.

Oh well he got what he needed in the beginning.
