Mud rooms by definition is a area that serves as a in between room where the idea has been to stop traffic long enough to discard jackets shoes etc , most are the first area you enter from the garage or exterior , most also serve as the laundry room , hence the mud stops here ! Where they used to have lobbies in days of Yore , and then the foyers were brought into play , and now it is the mud room .Landings etc are not mudrooms , some are elaborate , some plain , but as long as they serve the purpose they suffice .There is a growing trend towards having a sort of sitting room /lobby/mud room concept at the main entrance , almost dept store like , just more home like where you ,friends and family come in as well as leave , a central area for ',shoes , jackets etc

I like what they call mud rooms in Alaska, I noticed Alaskan referred to it as one. I was watching a home buying TV show in Alaska. And the buyers who were from a city asked "what is this room?" The realtor said it was
a 'artic entry' "they only have them in Alaska", my wife laughed and said, "isn't it a mud room?" Lol.

Would it be cool if we got back on the topic of beavers? We are getting ready to go check on our stocked pond and a few beaver ponds. There is a pretry cool new beaver dam in the process of being built if any1 wants to see pics. Myidiotwife is taking her I-thingy pod or whatever.

I been researching houses for what seems to be Aeons....

I love my land but the house was horrible when I first saw it. Though It has grown on me over the years. IF I were to replace it I would keep the new house right on the same spot. those sight lines

I would grow the foot print to allow for a great room and at least two full bathrooms and a guest potty/wash room.

Actually I would like two master bedrooms.... the house now has a single bedroom with the bathroom on the complete opposite end of the house. you have to walk through the dining area and kitchen to get to the bathroom then through the bathroom to the actual back door.

I want a good sized kitchen and a full on walk in pantry access to the pantry from a summer kitchen where I could do canning. the freezer would be there along with a small walkin I have seen some Diy plans for a walk-in Just for hanging sausages and dry aging meat. I hear chicken is awsome if you Dry chill it instead of chilling it in Ice.

If I plan it right I can do the dirty parts of chicken processing just outside the back door and bring it in to the summer kitchen for further work. Summer kitchens here aren't inclosed but I would want mine enclosed with screening. but I would have a smoker along with the barbeque out there.... Then I want a dedicated cook top for canning and soup making. I am thinking a lowered cook top for the job so I can load it from a seated position.... Plus one huge sink deep enough to wash the big stuff, and clean and prepare veggies. and a big cutting board instead of counter for chopping.... Lower for me to be in a wheel chair.

Then the kitchen in the house would be mostly counter top my good propane stove and a HUGE refrigerator... Biggest one I can find. Being sixty miles from a real grocery store makes stocking up a necessity. Getting frozen food home is a challenge.... I like frozen veggies much better than canned. Ideally I could get a pass through refrigerator so I could stock it from the back...

Same goes for the pantry.... Pantry access from cabinets in the kitchen so all the new additions get added from the back... No special cabinets to roll foods through a loop. I could do the home canned stuff that way too... oohh... I am liking this one more and more.

Then I want the whole house heated through Rocket stoves and mass heaters..... Individuals for the master bedroom and one for the living room / great room. I prefer swamp coolers and here that is all that is needed. So ducting that is pretty standard for AC is all that is needed to cool a house. One duct would run the AC from end to end of the whole house. Each room would have a ceiling fan of some sort. They work for hot or cool air circulation. Then a Whole house fan for those days when you just want to bring the outside air in.... I have seen those that are so strong they pull the doors shut....

Oh and for the animals....

I want a full on barn.... or what we call barns here in the Hot desert.... Pretty much the ones I like are called mare motels. 100 percent steel construction. I would have one area designated for chickens and goats and maybe some sheep on one end feed storage in the middle and horse facilities on the end. For the horse faciliites i want a sixteen by sixteen partially enclosed stall area.... I would also like a grooming/wash bay that can serve as the place for a farrier to work...

I am considering a buying my own hoof stands and Tools for trims... Big horses require big tools... Fans for the farrier to keep cool.... Trimming a horse in 105 degrees Is crazy... So There could be misters installed... I have an idea for a triangular workspace horse tied in the corner with a chest bar to keep her from crowding the farrier this all would work for me so I can groom her more easily.

Then there would be an elevated stand for trimming goats and sheep hooves.... I can do that its pretty easy. I could even set it up for loading a small pony .... easier on the farrier if they dont have to lean over so far....

Then there would be a walk way all the way from the chickens to the horse.... It would have shutters to close during the windy part of the year...

From there I would want full on plumbing and electrical access to it all. small refrigerator out there .... Or a water chiller for sodas and the occasional beer. All lighting for seeing at night would be solar powered.... but I need power to run clippers and a brooder ... All outlets would be fireproof electrical boxes with doors that shut off dust and moisture.... even though they would be inside.... I want to be able to pressure wash occasionally.

Then for my property I want to completely fence the land that my house sits on... Its ell shaped and probably about fifteen acres. This way I could keep dogs for parimeter security.. probably a pair of Reservation dogs... something that would keep out coyotes by marking and alerting. Then I could make a turnout area with enrichement for the horses.... hay piles placed in spots they have to travel through specific paths with varying terrains.... The fencing for the paths would be minimal and electric. Its a way to get them to exercise and cut down on boredom. And yes if I could get this all I would get an additional horse. Companion.

Once I got the property on the north side of the road fenced I could fence the property on the south side of the road.... about five acres triangular shaped... There is enough land there to build a second house/cabin and maybe put in an arena... But I am loth to plow any bit of this land I could do a track though and be happy with that.... maybe a figure eight track for changing direection with a vehicle... That would work.

OH I am soooo dreaming.

Here is our Alabama mud room!

I would sooo love something like this.... um.... without the cigarette butts... LOL... but thats me I like the spaces between the boards because dust would just sweep into them. and using a shop vac occasionally would keep them clear. Our weather is pretty darn good most of the year. Even so I would screen the upper part and sheathe the lower part of the railing so stuff doesnt fall off the porch... Screened though would be good as well.

Here we need people exclusion for security.... so hardware cloth under the screen. I know it wont keep people out but it will give evidence of tampering.
