Dixie Chicks

I was looking for a better picture of her head/face. This one is from last spring. The others were taken on the 15th of this month.
Hanna is a grand example of an Araucana, I am drooling now... Her tufts are amazing... Does she have the quieter, less shrill voice? And may I ask where you got her from? I'm looking for different stock to broaden my gene pool and quality...

Does the cuckoo Marans lay dark eggs?
She hasn't laid yet, but they are supposed to be really dark! Any day now........

Quote: I got a dozen eggs shipped to me from BYCer Ray_n_Debi. Three hatched. Two managed to drown in an open water dish the first day I let them out with the main flock (three days old) with their Icelandic momma. I named her Hans Solo since she was the only one. I was positive that she had to be a boy, that I could not be so lucky as to have a pullet. I had to change the name to Hanna Solo when she turned out to be a pullet. She definitely has a different voice than the Icelandics.

Sheesh, this thread moves fast!!

No hatchlings yet on my bator. Going to go hover though. Because that helps the eggs hatch

LOL sing to them that definitely helps them hatch faster it worked with mine!!
This is a picture of my only Araucana hen, Hanna. She has large tufts, is rumpless and lays a blue egg.

I have a son in Louisville, KY and have been trying to plan a trip down to Nashville from there. If I get down that way, do you want some eggs?

I feed Purina Startena free choice. It is a gamebird starter that has 30% protein. I feed oyster shell free choice. They get meal worms (dried or home raised), fermented whole and cracked grains, sprouted grains/seeds and whatever scraps from the house or garden I think they'll eat.

Yes, hovering is required for eggs to hatch!
wowow haha soo kewl Gosh that isnt the side of the head tuffing like the amercana's have at ALL hahhahaha thats funny as heck I wonder if they bounce around when they walk..how fun ty for sharing your gorgious pictures :D.... I just got back from the feed store they are going to drive me bonkers there...........

Sorry to hear about the accident, I lost some to water wicking out in the brooder and heat bulb going out... :( Glad she turned out to be such a gorgeous pullet tho! :)
I love their softer voices, lol... the different breeds have different sounds, but theirs are truly unique...

My DH calls her the Larry Fine chicken. He thinks she is "just weird". He saw that I was posting pictures of her and wanted to know "What is the interest in the Larry Fine chicken?"
