Dixie Chicks

I'll use the cable I've got in the waterer that's in the run at the moment. It's not doing any use in the uninsulated waterer, so I'll put this one in there instead of it. It's actually meant to keep water pipes from freezing, it's got a built in thermostat. I'm hoping that together with the PU and the space blanket it will be enough to keep the water from freezing. 20W doesn't seem to be enough without the insulation.

Sam, I'm drilling a hole through the side, it goes inside the waterer. I specifically bought a model that can be submerged, if you wrap it around you're wasting a lot of heat, if it's inside the waterer, all the heat goes into keeping it from freezing.

No hatching yet. Hmph. But 3 blue eggs this morning so far, 1 with blood  so I'm about to take no pick, salve, towels etc outside to see which of the blue egg layers is bleeding on eggs and why.

The fun and excitement never end. On other news, we pick up a barn kitty/mouser tonight. I'm excited, the mice are just getting to be too much at this point, they laugh at all our attempts to get control of them. And the squirrels.

The crowing contest going on with 4 ayam cemani is making me batty. Anyone want any ac roos :)

DK, ship 'em to Beer. He'll be more than happy to take some.

How much blood are we talking? We've sometimes had a slight smear on the eggs, especially when a bird has just started laying, but it's been more of a one time thing.

@BriardChickens , x2 on the netti pot. Keep your mouth open and your head tilted to proper angle. Otherwise you get a mouthful of

. I get a bad sinus infection about once a year. That thing works wonders for me. I also take over the counter allergy tablets when it strikes and cough meds if needed. Better to take care of it early, then wait until it settles into bronchitis.

@vehve , the heated waterer looks like a great project. Let us know how it works.

Interview went well, I think. You never know what I am up against, right? They said they will call within 2 weeks to let me know either way. Time to clean house and get the isolation coop ready for more chickens
