Dixie Chicks

The ones in our coop have all pretty much feathered out, but Flappy seems to be concentrating more on healing himself, and gaining size. Eating like crazy and demanding more food all the time. He doesn't have nearly as much feathers as the other ones. But now there's new skin creeping in over the wound, I think within a week he should be ready to be reintroduced to the flock, I hope Virpi will be willing to take him under her wing still.

well flappys inside nice and warm right? the other ones will feather out faster cuz of the cold...flappys inside so can concentrate on healing and body growth because feathers arent essential as much ...you think the feathers will grow where the wound was?

that will be interesting from the looks of it flappy looks like got scalped down it's neck..so did I see you were having more hope of having pullets?

Well, comparing the light and darker ones, there's a clear difference, but we'll see.

The darker ones have much more developed combs, and a bit sturdier feet. Also, I've only seen the dark ones chest bumping, but they might just be assuming the more dominant positions among the chicks.

so from my understanding so far....combs wattle development, thicker legs and slower tail feather growth can all be good indicators of male female?
