I get a bang out of those hens that are protective of the egg. Our late RIR was just a dear to us any other time 99.5% of the time. She'd jump up on our lap for pets and allow us to pick her up any old time. But by God you better not put your hands under her when in the nest box. Just sort of cracked me up and of course just added to her personality. Same on the roost while she was getting ready to go to sleep. No little tickles under the crop during roost time. Gosh I miss her.

Congrats on the upped production. Nice egg. Look at all that beautiful bloom on that egg! nice.

I guess that's a good thing... come spring (so only another few months) I'll ask on ACE if anyone has some eggs. Also coming into my coop this summer: 5 more hens and 1 rooster, Partridge Chanteclers. I love my current girls so am getting more from the same breeder. Very excited!
