Dixie Chicks

thanks for y'alls support as I slip these chicks under the broody...haha I am so nervious............... so think it will be ok since she hasnt reacted yet @minihorse927 ? you've slipped chicks to a broody before also havent you @vehve ?

I just check on her throughout the day today and if she hasn't reacted to him by the end of the day and they seem to be staying up underneath her then I wouldn't worry about it

@hennible and @Alaskan scare dme to give the chicks to the broody I wouldnt never batted an eye before.......... all the times we gave the babys to my grandma's flock or my aunts flock never had a problem so it hadnt occured to me there would be one.......

Oh, sorry Jem, thought it was your pic, but it wasn't. No, I haven't slipped them under, we let the broodies take care of the eggs all the way. Much less fuss than with an incubator. The eggs under Emma right now should be on day 8 I think.

I did like Wishers idea of incubating the eggs inside, then taking them under a broody a day before they should hatch. Seems like a good idea.

Ducks, they are horrible housekeepers, aren't they? Splash their water everywhere. I don't have any experience myself, but that's what I've read.
ducks are horrid housekeepers but it's all about management. Biggest issue is water. After a couple days of age I hang their waterer up where they can get their head into it but not their body. helps to keep the mess down to a minimum
