Yeah, wasn't aware, we usually don't have burn bans. When I was reading about that fire it said it was illegal to burn in NY right now. We don't have anything green much yet I guess doesn't help they say. According to that map NY is abnormally dry, southern Cali looks like toast.

how can you'll be so dry after so many feet of snow this winter?

We are so dry because we didn't have a lot of snow, well less then last year. Then when it "melted" our ground was still on the deep freeze and the winds picked up any of the remaining puddles etc..

Had to skip a bunch again.......

@Amberjem ramp and deck are looking good!

@Beer can Yikes on the fires in NY....strange weather many are having

@vehve the bunny babies are cute....but none look like momma

Good night everyone!

Father inlaw said ( and he's old so he knows everything) that our ground was so solid from subzero all winter starting before we got snow that when we finally did warm up it all ran off the hills and didn't soak in.

huh, so that is how it works.... thanks for the explanation.

So, I just rented to a couple... stupid of me, but whatever, it is the kind of person that I am.

I just liked them, and they had a dog, but in the "golden age" of no longer a puppy, but not yet incontinent. And, the dog is super small, a Lhasa Apso I think they said, totally incapable of killing even tiny chickens.

AND they BOTH had full all year jobs, AND they didn't care about my horrid road and my laid back plowing ethics.

So, for a hundred bucks, and holding onto his grandpa's gun, they get to hold the place, pay for the rest of this month in a few days, and not pay deposit until the 6th of next month.

I think it has a high chance of working out well......

And I am super happy because I no longer have to show the place. One person that I talked to today was a TOTAL fail, she first asked if she could rent the place for a hundred bucks less a month.....uh, I said "NO". But, that made me start to wonder if she would never be able to pay in full. Then she said that she had a Border Collie mix, and if I would OK the dog. I said, that that sounded like the kind of dog that would want to kill all of my chickens, I repeated that twice, and twice she responded with "Oh, no, he would never kill any chickens, he would probably just want to play with them". I explained, yes twice, that a dog "playing" with chickens would result in dead chickens. Wowsers... she didn't get it, and just repeated that he would only "play" with them, and after having un-leashed run around time he would be just fine in the apartment. HA!

The couple I did say OK to, the guy is divorced, and said that his kids might visit, and if that was OK.... I said it was, as long as his kids didn't kill my chickens. I think that the guy thought that I was joking..... I rented to him anyway.

Hope that all works out well for you, @Alaskan, it actually does sound positive... my mom had a Lahsa Apso, looked like an old kitchen mop and was scared spitless of anything that moved or made noise, lol... glad you didn't go with the clueless girl... sounded like an impending disaster just waiting for you...

Met another neighbor down the road... really nice guy who breeds game birds and pigeons... has beautiful birds and he is extremely big hearted... is gonna give me a bunch of 5 gal buckets since he's getting like 80 of them, lol... and looks like we are gonna get a puppy... he has a Pyrenees pair and the female is in heat... both of them are amazing chicken protectors and he offered us a pup if she's prego...

Al, I hope they're a good fit. In my experience, Lhasa Apsos can be a bit yappy, but usually they're pretty easy to get along with. Not really dogs, more of a couch ornament. I don't know how prone to chasing chickens they are though. Our neighbors have a Tibetan Spaniel, it has tried to catch our chickens a couple of times when they've ventured outside the fence. They are a lot quicker than he is though, and since Karin snipped him, he has calmed down quite a bit.
