That's cute bc.
Actually come to think of it I used breakfast sausage. Goes great on a belly full of beer. Dipped in spicy mustard or tabasco sauce.

Little bit of veining but a big black blob in the middle..

Every night our sheep get a little bit of grain in 2 bins. Less pushing and shoving among our 4 girls that way. Last night the chickens invited themselves to a feast. Free ranging isn't enough apparently.

As I was walking the grain bucket over to their bins the sheep get all excited and jumpy around my legs. Now add some chickens between sheep legs you have a circus. Along the way I dropped a handful of grains for the chickens in the thought that maybe no one will get stepped on. By the time I had the grains in the bins the chickens were "defending" their bowl...

It is stories like this that make me wonder how "chicken" ever got to be a term for someone afraid of something. I know mine can be skittish at times but the will take on the cats for food or space and the cats give way to them.

Your sheep obviously know who rules the roost!

My ducks are way more chicken than my chickens, lol... unless you have peas... they will trample anything for peas... :D

Deb, I'm hoping for a wonderful wonderland of green for you. Do you know if the rains are reaching your place out in the boonies too?

Havent a clue.... though typically we get monsoons all summer.... once a week downpours that last maybe five minutes. Just enough to wash the dust off the bushes.

There are mountain rangee between the coast and my house called the Cuyamacas and Lagunas. Places high enough to be in the tree line. 4000-6000 feet. They usually claim most of the moisture as the clouds move on past.

That moisture benefits me in that it fills the aquifers.... More well water. We get some green out of it but its usually a flurry of growing flowers and reproduction... seeds... The cactus during a rain will double in size hoarding it up for the summer....

At my house the ground is Decomposed granite imagine a nature sized water filter... water goes right through.

Filaree or Crainsbill Grows like crazy and is good forage for all livestock

Each of those seed pods has four seeds and a self drilling mechanism for each.

this is how the mechanism works

Notice how alive this soil is.... I dont have soil except where my animals have lived.... out in the front yard Filaree will take over if given a chance. It seems to need only water...

The plant itself is edible and relished by all.

The seeds are like grain full of energy...

I belive its all edible for people too.
